Cat Pun Album (My Shortcomings and What the Future Holds)

Yes, you heard that right.

I've been meaning to post about this for quite some time now, but I've been crazy busy, what, with three jobs, Write Club, over 27 credit hours of school and a burgeoning love life (HA!) But in the mean time, I've been hard at work, writing new songs and all the titles are cat puns!

But why? Why cat puns?

This is an easy one! Besides the fact that, duh, cat puns are amazing, I have this friend who lives in Michigan that I'd went to High School with, and during a recent conversation, I mentioned how I'd had this idea for a band (or album) called Kitty Plasma and, from there, she rattled off five cat puns that she declared must be made into songs. But the songs shouldn't have anything to do with the titles.

I've been planning a roadtrip where I'd pick her up and we'd go to meet a mutual friend and her hubby (and offspring!) in Colorado, so I said "Yo, I'm going to write and record this and give this album to you when we meet."

So my work began.

One night I recorded one of the songs and was upset with how poor the quality was, but she said (despite the quality) that she loved it, she was excited for the album, and that she loved my voice.

Like, bros.

She like my voice.

I think as a singer, that's the hardest thing to grasp. I sing confidently and passionately (I'm not tooting my horn, I just get into it, ya know?) but I've never thought of myself as a good singer, let alone with a voice worth "loving." So that really reinforced my resolve.

She sent me five more cat puns to make it into an album, and I got a little overwhelmed, but I've got this, yo.

Meanwhile...

Excited over this cat album concept, I texted a friend of mine and asked if he wanted to help do art, help me with the beats and bass, and maybe straight up call this a collab album. His band is Keno Nifty, and they're awesome. I wrote an article about them, that's how dope they are. (By they, I mean him. It's just him.) He does crazy cool art and, for the ridiculous ideas I have for this album, his art would be perfect. It's kind of cartoonish, sleek, and stylish.

So he's excited about it and he has a record label he's actually trying to make it with. They're called Business Casual and he wants to pitch this album to them. That's fricking dope! He actually did the art for one of the folks on the label named "Mere."

So this is all cool stuff and I'm excited for him primarily! This was mostly supposed to be a bit of a gift that I would maybe carry on, but ultimately I didn't have much staked in it. Now I have a drive and I have my mind off of the awful things that like to crawl in my head and turn it all over. It doesn't help that it's been raining straight for two weeks though.

Shortcomings. You said shortcomings. Why?

This is more of a side note, but here it is.

A) I messed up bad. I posted a writing tutorial on Steemit recently (my last post) and it was obviously wrong on one point and I hadn't thought to check with them to make sure all the content was correct. Worse yet, I used the #thewriteclub tag, so I was abusing their name and their tag. It was raining that day too.

B) I missed a deadline in the Write Club. I didn't re-read everyone's stories by 1pm today. Jordan forgave me, but I'm pretty upset at myself, and now I'm wondering if they all hate me or not. It's cool if they do, but I'l try to make it up by working harder and better.

What the Future Holds

I'm a little mixed up. I need affection, and I'm single. I need to write, but I want to stop writing altogether (because of the stuff up there ^). I'm having issues with God and my church and my family and I need friends to talk to and to be with and I wasn't equipped for any of this. It seems all I'm good at now is reading, and I'm still slow at it.

But I have a future.

I'm earning two degrees, I've released multiple albums, published a novel, I'm rocking on Steemit and I'm an Eagle Scout! Yeah! Also, I have this Cat Pun album.

If I have nothing else, I have this Cat Pun album.
