A message to my sixteen years old self.

My dear,

You turned sixteen yesterday and what joy filled your heart. It is not easy being sixteen...sweet sixteen. You are proud of your accomplishments as the first girl of the family, always at the top of your class, a role model to your younger ones, a pride to your parents. You have never failed at anything, life is bliss at the moment. You keep singing that funny song you composed with your friends.

         I am sweet sixteen 
         I would be sweet like this forever 
         I wish to be forever sixteen
         If you dare hurt me 
         I would tell my mum

It was fun singing it with your friends. But you fail to realise life isn't always going to be rosy. If wishes were horses, beggars would ride. What good can wishing bring you?

Be smart about decisions you would make.

Don't get too close to that girl next door when you move to that new place next month.

Don't fail to read extra hard for your university entrance exams, you still have a long way to go. Don't be too cocky when it comes to academics, unfortunately you are not the genius you think you are.

Don't mind that boy you are crushing on. Infact, crush that crush. Going down that path would bring you only heartache.

Be smart about what you tell your 'friends'. Not everyone is in love with you.

Don't be too trusting so it doesn't lead you into trouble.

Never back down from challenges. Be courageous but don't take stupid risks.

When you get that cancer scare next month, don't be afraid of dying.

Don't get depressed. That lump is benign afterall. Please go for treatment as soon as possible. Don't let it weigh you down.

Learn to respect yourself first only then can people do the same.

Be true to yourself. Deceiving yourself would do you no good.

Never change yourself for anyone, you are perfect the way you are. Anyone that says otherwise is free to go jump in the sea.

Though you really need to put a stop to that bad habit procrastination. You could lose a lot of opportunities because of that alone.

Finally, love your family. Accept them for who they are and stop complaining afterall you are not perfect.

I really hope you don't discard this...though i know you would since you are a know-it-all. You are stubborn that way but then that is who you are.
