NOVEMBER IS FOR WORDS AND NOVELS!!!

November 1st is right around the week!!! And the time has come to for NaNoWriMo.

What Is NaNoWriMo?

National Novel Writing Month

It is a way to encourage writers to sit down and word. Because honestly, so many folks say they want to write a book, but never just sit down to do it.

They talk about it at a party or write some notes during a meeting. But so many folks don’t honestly know what it takes to write a book.

November = 50,000 words

The goal is a lot of words – 50K to be exact. However, this is only a quasi-winning line. Because while close to 20% will meet this goal, the unfinished 80% need to give themselves some serious credit because writing for a living is:

HARD!

But let’s back up. If you do finish this goal, DO NOT send your 50K into a million agents. Ewww. Not only is the work unfinished, it is unedited. All good books have one secret ingredient – good editing. Okay – maybe great editing.

Before Doing NaNoWriMo

If you decide that you want to participate, do not go blindly into November. Make sure you know where you and your words are going.

This includes, but is not limited to, creating storyboards and outlines.

While some stories and books can begin with nothing, this is the Exception, NOT the Rule!!! Take the time to create notecards and understand the 5W/H of your book…

Who?
What?
When?
Where?
Why?
How?

If you have never studied the “Hero’s Journey” – DO IT! All

My Tips For Participating in NaNoWriMo

  1. First drafts are NEVER perfect.
  2. Now is not the time to edit.
  3. Don’t worry about plot inconsistencies.
  4. If you are going to post on Steemit, make sure to put copyright lines on all your posts.

Have Fun

NaNoWriMo is really just a way to excuse your anti-social behavior in exchange for a great time writing. Use it wisely.

Write On!

This is an interesting challenge @clevercreator.

A silly question perhaps - but do copyright lines really mean anything? Plagiarists will plagiarize with abandon.

Also - as an aside - always back up your writings before posting them. Especially true of these troubling times.

True that bad folks will steal content, but in most countries that copyright line (that I forgot) helps one, as as a deterrent and two, if a lawsuit it is needed.

No such thing as a silly question. And gods yes, always save your work offline. And in multiple spots.
