Thank You for a wonderful post !
I am old ; like the Dark Side of 50 . . .
Never a heavy smoker I smoked for decades between 10 or 20 cigareetes.
I tried gum and patches and the E'cig . . .
What vaping did was allowed me to " clean up my act ".
Essentially ecigs allow people to avoid the harmful tar and cancer agents inserted into cigarettes by your duly elected politicans . . .
I found that over time I could use the Ecig where and when I liked and slowly less and less.
The reason cigarettes " work" is the addiction causes huge up-spikes during smoking and huge depressions when not inhaling.
It is the huge difference in the swings that lead to the massive psychological and physical withdrawls smokers cannot get over . . .
Nicotine is a deadly poison and far more addictive than heroin, but unlike heroin that kills in 5 years, nicotine takes 25 years to kill (approximately) it is this delay that allows the government to allow its sales for taxation rewards.
The government gets to tax and tax and tax dollar cigrateette somoking and you get to pay the co-pay of your privately funded health insurance (or your employers health fund) . . .
What e-cigs do is stop the huge up swing and down swing, so instead of bottoming out into nightmarish withdrawal cravings the ecig plateaus the highs and lows toward a middle ground that works.
This way the smoker slowly learns to not be as reliant on smoking since they do not get those intense high hits of nicotine and they get to avoid those massively irritating depressing lows.
By evening out the smoking the smoker can slowly deal with the habit, social, psychological and physical addictions of smoking as they slowly give up.
I am off the cigarettes since July and that has repaid me about 25 times over the outlay to purchase the ecig system.
Simply smokers have to want to do it and then make the effort to be a better person by doing it. Trust me when i say combining going cold turkey and stopping suddenly after a few weeks of ecigs works . . .
The great thing is having the ecig available for the inevitable relapse after a few days, just forget the guilt trip and keep trying; yoda said it best, their is not try, there is only do : )
I have never tried e-cigs before. Maybe I will someday.

Seriously how can you not? they cost a lot in set up costs and after 6-8 weeks save you 50 % of your costs.
They are five times more socially acceptable, three times healthier and HALF THE COST. Plus they do not blow up gas cylinders accidentally ! ! ! !
The choice is yours but its a no brainer when you gain so many benifits, i live with a non-smoker and she does not scream when i e-cig in bed . . .
Prior to being quitted for well over 3 months ! ! !
BUT i am NOT giveing up caffeine for nothing : )
Good Luck Steemian ; )

That is awesome, that you made that work. I have some friends who seem to be doing your method-- we will see!
I offer only a bit of relief to those who are beating themselves up over their seeming lack of will power, and suffering from feelings of defeat. Maybe approaching those mental hurdles can be easier when they are more defined, to maybe improve the old state of mind at least.
It's nice to hear a success story with the e-cigs, congrats!
