When autumn becomes weighty

original creative writing

Now that the jovial spark
of change has windburst,
sending its yellow spores through
the walls of everything & dissipating,
a heavier tinge is setting in, cozying
itself, settling down to sink sienna fingers
into the brains of earth. And some of
    its appendages strangle diversions until
they decay into lifelessness; Some of
its fingernails form terrariums of mold
 to encapsulate exuberance. Our globe
of rainbow rainflesh is shedding its
snakeskin in a fervent flurry of
sweet rot. Thick roots tunnel into
dirt packets, clay electrifies the
hibernatory anguish of fields that
lie fallow.

We have turned over the thin frontispiece,
lit the mantle & festooned it with
cones of pine ash, frankincense & bronze
sentiment. Butterflies of chrome sit in the
       sky motionless, inwardly revolving colors
wheeling through their life cycles and
reinterring them into their mineral cradles.
From rock came the brown of sobriety &
weariness, a thick ooze its own
fifth state of matter, the ancient
   crone quintessence of quartz illumined
by red nebulae. Mixed with the
mud it fizzled somewhat &
became black-red fire, denser
than air, denser than colour, that
burned smokeless, heavy in
the center of things.

Weighty the inscrutable mass of
grey detritus, beautiful hangings of
 death-green dead branches, smashed,
splintered by the anvil of circumstance,
    crushing themselves eagerly, rushing to
         face agonizing transmutation, martyrdom
of rot. Unbouncing mass, anchored by inertia,
 sandwiched in an incestuous promise
of humus and dull fire.

Low, low the ember of autumn:
and cold its freezing fire bites,
turquoise anthill exploding through a
violet sky to wink out in orange comets
trailing smoke of the sentries.

Autumn brings love, trees caress the brain of the earth. Circle of energy brings lightning colors. Crazy words - amazing poetry - incredible style. Your poetry iluminates our souls. My deepest respect for you - my friend.

One of the reasons to live in the Midwest, Autumn and it's colors. Trees as beautiful as a sunset on the beach, a cool nip in the air, and reason to climb under a blanket and snuggle with your loved one. To bad winter has to follow with all it's back breaking snow....that white stuff is almost majestic until you have to shovel your driveway...then it's just pure evil.

An intimate relationship with Autumn seeps through your writing. Thanks for sharing.

I like that 'when autumn becomes weighty'. Yes. It starts with a tingle in the air, a shift of energy inward after summers exuberance and then as it settles in it does become weighty. Your words capture it perfectly!

@d-pend this is another interesting poem devoted to this stage of the year when the old things start to take off and nature starts its preparation for new growth. Just as banks and governments are in the process to be transformed by cryptos. upvoted. @gold84
