Ric was clueless of what to do. He didn’t know how quickly Kyle would be finished with his work, and he didn’t want to be in the middle of an exam next semester when someone recognized him or found that video, so he decided to move somewhere he would be a no-name: Springfield, Missouri. He luckily had enough money saved up to move anyways, because he was originally planning to transfer this semester anyways. He now had to do a transfer to a completely different college in about a month’s time. He could do it, assuming the college office cooperated. Ordering the books online was the easy part for his classes. He would discover, however, that getting books would be a much more interesting adventure.
He was packing up his dishes in his kitchen when he heard a knock on his front door. He was worried at first that it was the police, so he decided to look through the peephole first to make sure. It was a girl he had never met before that was holding a stack of books that looked suspiciously like the ones he had ordered. He opened the door and looked at the books, then at her neon blue hair, then at her.
“Hi, what can I do for you?” He looked at her, still confused at what she was doing there and why she was carrying what looked like his books.
“Hey, I’m Amanda. Are you Ric?” She looked at him, then at a note on the books.
“Oh! Yes, I am. Did those get delivered to you?”
“Yeah, the post officer makes that mistake all the time. No worries though. While I’m here, do you have any tuna? I’m craving some tuna salad, and I don’t feel like walking to the store.”
“Yeah, it should be in the refrigerator.” Ric opened the door and gestured for her to come in, forgetting that half of his apartment was brown boxes that, unfortunately, were not bigger on the inside of the box.
“Wow, where ya heading?” Amanda walked in and walked over straight to the fridge.
“Springfield, Missouri. I got in a college there for engineering.”
“Wow, Missouri? I thought that state was all lakes and tourist towns.” Amanda retrieved the tuna and tossed it in the air a few times.
“Well, I’m not sure about that. They have a good college, though, Rolvry, for engineering. And hopefully if the state is all lakes then they teach the classes above water. I don’t think chalk would work well underwater.” Ric unpackaged the books that she had set on his kitchen counter and started flipping through them quickly to make sure all the pages were there and nothing was in bad condition.
