What to say when you can't find the right words to say? Nothing. Just silence. Learn to be there and nothing more.
I have been writing my travel memoirs for three months now, and there's nothing that gives me more joy than release all those untold stories inside me. A travel memoir is like a snippet of the author's life, a recount of the events in the past that is more personal and emotional. It can be quite delicate sometimes because it tells a specific turning point in life, a vivid memory which has profoundly affected the author. It is not just an ordinary travel writing, a travel memoir retrospectively reexamines an event in the past. It is one of the most compelling ways to capture the readers' emotions.
The best music and art can come from the great emotional depths that words can't often describe.
The true genius shudders at incompleteness — imperfection — and usually prefers silence to saying the something which is not everything that should be said.
― Edgar Allan Poe
I have more words free-flowing, it tells how much I really know what I am writing about, my own life experiences that simply cannot be compressed into one essay or prose. Sometimes the events can be too complex to be simplified into writing, as I am just bursting with thoughts and emotion. It can be hard to unearth some things in the past but I found many great benefits in turning them into powerful stories. It is not easy to go back there and face yourself again, there are a lot of feelings involved that have to be put into words. Writing is part of the healing process.
In this digital age with information coming from all directions, it would be hard for most people to put more attention into something anyway. So in the end, there are really no words as most don't really know what they are reading about, just scanning and reading the most convenient parts.
It would even be harder to find the right words to say to the authors these days as most are usually engrossed in their own digital affairs, devoid of emotion. What, great post, emotional, wow? Don't you feel the same way after having read a book, do you find the need to contact the author and say what a great read thank you? And I love this part, very emotional. Some people might be doing that, but most really don't. For me, I am just simply stuck in the space, internalizing and thinking what I have just finished reading. I just let it flow within me.
I think some personal stories demand no words and feedback sometimes. No words, insight and unsolicited advice to comfort the author. Just let it as it is, read and take whatever you can take. Not even an invite for personal messages to awkwardly discuss a very personal writing or travel memoir, there's nothing more strange than that. It is like finding the right words to tell a grieving person that will not irritate or sting. Sometimes, there are simply no words, just allow yourself to be stunned in silence.
There is always a time to speak and a time to remain silent.
I don’t want just words. If that’s all you have for me, you’d better go
― F. Scott Fitzgerald
I love this photo. There are some things in life that simply do not require words. Sunsets, Sunrises, experiencing the birth of a child .. those are just a few of the top ones on my list :)
I agree, but also disagree. People only pay attention for microseconds. No one has the attention span to focus on one thing anymore. It's a lost art, and it's ruining our society (in my opinion).
The more time people can take to "be bored" and explore their inner thoughts, as opposed to being told what to think and what to pay attention to, the better off we will all be as a society.
As cruel and terrible as this may sound, I can't wait for people to start growing inoperable brain tumors from the usage of smart phones. Then, maybe people will stop using them so much and start to take the time to look up and enjoy the wonderful world that is physically around us, as opposed to immersing themselves into a fictional world on the screen in front of them.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the Jack Reacher series. If you've seen the movies, the books are 10000x better!

Just to clarify, Lee Child is the author :) Jack Reacher is the character. He has probably close to 15 or so books about Reacher. And I've probably read 8 or 9 of them.
Let me know what you think about it if you wind up reading one!

Some great observations in this post. Sometimes the right thing to do is nothing.
Like you, I find writing cathartic, enabling me to grasp the thoughts that had been hiding in the back of my mind. This is amongst the reasons to write to an author about a work you have found interesting, even if you never send it to them.
All too often, in writing about something, I discover what I really think about it. Speaking somehow doesn't do this to the same degree, perhaps because we are incapable of editing what we have said, unlike what we write.
I really don't understand skimming. I don't do it. I read something because I am interested in it, and want to gain the most understanding from it I can. This makes me read every word, and sometimes more than once. Perhaps this reduces how much I read, but what I read I comprehend to the best of my ability, and I reckon that is more important.
Thanks!

I think you know what I mean very well since you are a better writer. Like what can you comment on an article that portrays so much about the author's emotion, sad experience and art, which can be quite dark sometimes? It is hard to say something.
Most people who comment just skim my posts, later on, some will just make a fool of themselves for not really reading everything lol.

I don't think I am a better writer, rather the reverse. I may be better at the mechanical tasks of grammar, but I feel pretty strongly you far better convey deeper meanings than mere grammar can.
Most people that skim your posts cost themselves the true rewards of reading them completely, which I can ill afford.
Thanks!

It is even harder when you can fluently speak 3 languages, your brain trying to translate images. Thanks for the positive criticism, and for letting me know my own flaws. It made me feel even better today. You are better and wiser, that's for sure. :)

Yes, in most cases, when reading your travel posts, I just let it take its effect on me. Like watching the sunset or listening to a piece of music. So, I'm reading your posts, but rarely comment.
In general, I think it's a problem here that for a comment to get attention (and upvotes), one has to reply as soon as possible after the post appears. That might be one reason why many comments are superficial, not well thought through, and why sometimes it becomes apparent that commentators didn't even took time to read the post carefully.

I still reply to comments even if the post is old.
Yeah, these days I don't bother to answer all comments anymore. Just some.
