A line in the Black Panther movie sounded like Hollywood was recreating on the big screen, plots from President Trump's Utopian dream of an isolationist America.
I saw the movie last night and a certain line caught my attention. "Wakanda doesn't engage in International trade, doesn't do charity nor accept refugees" because when refugees come, Wakanda will no longer look like the Wakanda they know, the refugees will come with their problems.
Someone tell me this didn't sound like a plot from Donald Trump's playbook? This is the thrust of Trump's Make America Great Again trade policy and outlook towards refugees. It will indeed make 'the Donald' smile.
In contrast to the Africa of today, Africa is poor, Africa is the only region in the world where regional trade is barely existent. African countries are more likely to trade with foreign nations than with fellow African countries. According to UNCTAD, intra-African exports represent just 11% of total exports, compared to 50% in Asia and 70% in Europe.
SIDE NOTE:
T'Challa was such a boring super hero, Ghanians must be saying in their street slang 'chale what's up with you?' All the girls (winks) in the movie were super interesting than he was.
It was a good piece of entertainment.
