MOVIES TODAY...

Black Panther the movie is worth all the hype and so much more. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It is an excellent movie. Pure A. It tells a powerful story and with an almost all-Black cast. That's enough to get excited about. Wear any costume you want to if it makes you excited. Embrace all the extra-ness you want just to show your love for the movie. It is worth it. Personally, I am getting Shuri's costume from the movie. If Harry Potter inspired me to want to own wands and capes and visit Hogwarts, Black Panther does so much more. If Star wars make people wear their favorite character's costume like Yoda, Varth etc, then you're free to wear any cultural costume that Black Panther inspires you to. Embrace it without apology. Everyone cosplays to their favorite comics. This is no exception. Wear the wakanda out of your costumes.

Art mirrors life. Hundreds of years now, the people guarding and in control of the media understand this. The media is powerful. Art is powerful. A group of people can be uplifted by just seeing a representation of themselves in the media. Nations of the world sink millions into perception and the way the media represents them. This is politics and politics is life. In fact, anyone saying that this movie is just a comic knows nothing about art. Art is politics. Art is everything.

Last year, I saw these 3 movies, Moana, Hidden Figures and Wonder Woman a good four times each at the cinema. They did something to me I still can't explain. They added feathers to my wings as a girl. They made me want to skip while walking and they made me want to conquer the world. My niece feels empowered by movies where she is represented powerfully and beautifully. When I show her images of women who have fought for the many things we enjoy today, she feels possible. It makes her believe in herself more. This is power. Art does this for us. Putting hopes and possibilities in the media is one way to inspire change and a revolution. Black Panther even teaches black history in a nuanced manner. Imagine the possibilities.

Take for instance Cinderella. Many young women will tell you that Cinderella, Rapunzel, and many Disney princesses shaped their expectations of love and romance. These were fairytales but it became people's reality. You can call it fiction, but fiction and what we call reality are just two sides of the same coin. Any part can be real.

Back to Black Panther because this must end, I am mad excited seeing how people are embracing it and wearing this joy outwardly. Power. Royalty. Control. Hope. Innovation. Equality. Justice. Hope. Everything is mirrored in Black Panther. I am bought forever. Wakandaforever!

This is a movie you watch more than four times. The first time to get a hang of the amazing storyline. The second time to admire and ogle at the fine beautiful, strong black people in it. The third time to get absorbed in the props and the costumes. My God! The fourth time to listen to the rich and perfect soundtrack and maybe dance to them. The fifth time just because! You keep watching it forever. You don't outgrow this. You know how you see a movie and walk out empowered, full and just possible? This is it!

🐯
P.s. I have a list of movies to share here from last year. I'm not ashamed to say that the cinema was my second home last year. I snuck away from the world almost daily to go recharge with movies. This year, you don't want to know where I'm seeing my movies. God epp me.😏

🐯
Another P.s. I'm adopting the Wakanda greeting. If I greet you, and you don't understand what I'm doing, just smile. This joy is forever.

I WANT TO SEE THE BLACK PANTHERS DIRECTOR'S CUT. The entire four hours of it! The cuts, the extended cuts, the final cuts, the deleted scenes. Everything!
