German Writers!
Today we want to talk a bit about the most famous writers in Germany. There are some known ones - dedicated experts for poetry or philosophy.

I am mainly impressed by the one on the top left (the last name is missing which is Goethe).

"Faust" von Goethe ist einer der wenigen Bücher die mir in der Schulzeit wirklich Spaß gemacht haben zu lesen. Deswegen ist für mich Goethe auf Platz 1. Wir haben auch eine Klassenfahrt nach Weimar gemacht und sind dort Goethes und Schillers Geschichte nachgegangen.

Aber zum Beispiel mit Thomas Mann kann ich mich gar nicht anfreunden... "Tod in Venedig" fand ich sterbens langweilig...

Danke Dir - stimme zu bei Faust - recht spannend für Schulstoff, fand auch einiges von Shakespeare (ok anderes Fach / Sprache) sehr spannend

I'm from the late 60s. I guess, Hesse had the main impact on the generation of my parents. But we also had to read him in school and it literally changed my life.

Ich bin Frankfurter.. war natürlich auch schon öfter im Goethe-Haus. Ich kann es nur jedem empfehlen dem Goethe-Haus ein Besuch abzustatten. Extrem faszinierend und informativ. Man hat wunderschöne Eindrücke von einem der bedeutendsten Schriftsteller Deutschlands

Genau, Goethe ist der berühmteste Sohn Frankfurt's. Frankfurt hat auch viele Künstler hervorgebracht oder zumindest war die Stadt lange Zeit Wirkungsstätte von Künstlern wie Max Beckmann. Dazu habe ich jetzt die Steemit Kunst-Serie "Famous German Artists" eröffnet. Und den Anfang macht Max Beckmann ;-)

Thomas Mann, Hermann Hesse and Bertolt Brecht are my favorite German writers. Sure, Goethes Faust is a must read. Goethe had also a fascinating life. He is a true philosopher. Great idea to promote German writers. I am now inspired and will open a similar thread on something else :-) If you are curious follow it on @osac ;-)

Anna Seghers kannte ich bisher noch gar nicht. :)
Für mich ist Werner Bergengrün ein sehr wichtiger Autor. Außerdem auch die Autoren der Romantik: Clemens Brentano, Eichendorff, Novalis und Heinrich von Kleist.

Sein bestes Buch ist für mich "Der goldene Griffel". Es handelt von jemandem der zur Zeit der Weimarer Republik einen großen Diebstahl begeht und damit davonkommt. ;)
Außerdem interessant ist sein Renaissance Roman "Der Großtyrann und das Gericht".

Why is Bukowski on this list? He wasn't a german writer, nor did he ever wrote in german language and his surname surely sounds more like of Slavic or Polish origin.

Mabye because of this: He was German born near my City of Birth - heritage mainly German, bit Polish - US nationality in the end - original name Heinrich Karl Bukowski.
