Out of Sight Out of Mind – United Nations

@doitvoluntarily wrote a post about how the UN is facing a historically severe shortage of funds. This post/rant is inspired from that. My first thought after seeing his post was –‘Ah, the UN. Haven’t thought about it in a while’.

I find many a similarities between a cuckold and the UN, but lets not talk about that. Lets talk about how come the biggest global organization in the history of global organizations is on a path to bankruptcy (maybe its not that severe). Truthfully at the end of the day the amounts pledged to the organization come from our pockets and our say there is so far removed in proxies that a common man doesn't gives a s*** about what happens there.

If the last two decades have shown us anything, it is that neither our countries nor the UN are willing to protect us. The question of protection isn't about protection from outside, the heart of the question is that 'who protects us from our own governments?’.

People are learning the hard way that they are on their own. This has created a dangerous but a healthy amount of apathy for their crap. UN has much bigger problems than money. The most glaringly obvious problem is that after seven decades of failure people don't care about UN anymore.

Let’s take a look into the UN and what it means to us today. What is United Nations? UN is a theoretical and a fairy tale organization that presides over what is called the - ‘nobody gives a shit about this anymore’ council. The reason being that events of this world are not being affected by reason and logic anymore.

In a place where revolutions have been manufactured for last 70 years and dictatorships have been propped up in the name of democracy……… let’s just say that people have reached their end of tolerance for hypocrisy in something they were taught to consider sacred. And let’s not confuse sacred with people’s faith.

I do not even know who the secretary general of the UN is anymore. The problem is not that I do not know that who the SG is, the real problem is that I don’t care enough about it to know who the SG is.

Apathetic I am certainly not. But the sad reality is that my instincts tell me that this is not worth my time. I have maybe 30-40 years left on this earth and there are things that I need to do. Loved ones to take care of. People to meet and tell them that this a world that doesn’t give shit about us anymore. It is each human’s business today to share with other humans their knowledge of how to take care of themselves.

So, you see that this is not about ‘not caring’. This is about caring for the right thing. We all have a limited time. Better to make sure that we spend it caring for those, who can at least give a shit back. And caring for what truly matters to us.

(All of the above is my rant at the frustration I feel. I have found that emotions can have little to do with reality and yet be realist thing that you can come across)

I totally feel you brother. It's really everyone for themselves now. You can't trust any political institution anymore, especially not the UN. Their track record has been disastrous and at times pathetic. Best example is Israel; they've created it out of thin air, thereby depriving the native people of their homeland. 70 years later, they've drafted numerous resolutions against their own creation for violently occupying Palestinian land. Consequences? Zero. In other words, they can't even control their own creation.

Another beauty was the election of Saudi Arabia to the Women's Rights Commission. I could go on, but just as you said time is precious.

I think your comment went off on a tangent of its own. Dude I hope you do realize that this post is a rant. It really has nothing to do with the geopolitical scenario or even what we choose to call facts. This post is a mere expression of frustration. Frustration that is rooted in our inability to change the status quo rather than what Israelis or Saudis are doing.

I get it and I feel the same frustration. Just wanted to point out a few major examples where the UN has failed miserably.

Excellent Rant. Nothing at all like a really heartfelt rant to get my juices flowing!

Reading this I couldn't remember the SG either. They used to be like royalty! I remember a series of stamps issued in the US honoring the first 4.

You are correct. The UN right now is essentially irrelevant and a brutally expensive irrelevance at that. The whole process is so watered down with correctness that nothing gets done. No thing that really matters. And it's military arm isn't run through the General Assembly so there is no particular oversight there, either.

Accckkk. Thanks for a great post. It's REALLY good to see you here.

Thanks for reading man! I appreciate it :-)

The security council atleast meant something for a while..... now I don't even know who are the members of it (except the permanent ones).
