Serious talk.

Do you know why most people don’t get the things they want in life?

It’s because they haven’t done the things to deserve getting them. You see, everybody wants, but not everyone gets. Charlie Munger said one of the wisest things I’ve ever heard, he said "I constantly see people rise in life who are not the smartest, sometimes not even the most diligent but they are learning machines. They go to bed every night a little wiser than they were when they got up, and boy, does that help."

See, the people who succeed most in life are the people who work on bettering themselves every single day. You have too spend each day trying to be a little wiser than you were when you woke up. Step by step, you get ahead but not necessarily in fast spurts but you build discipline by preparing for fast spurts.

Most people aren’t patient enough to achieve their goals. Success isn’t a fast process. You can’t exercise for a month and expect to look like a fitness model. It’s a long process with achieving goals every day. Go to bed a little bit healthier than you were yesterday. Do a couple of more sets than you did before and eventually, you will get what you deserve. If you exercise for two years, your body will change. It probably won't change in two months. If you build a business for two years, you'll probably see your income change. It won't change in two months. It just doesn't work that way.

The laws of the universe are not set up so that weak people will get anything substantive. It's designed that way. That’s how evolution works, it’s Darwinian theory. It’s not the strongest that survived. It's not the most intelligent but it's the most adaptable that survived.

You have to grow and adapt every single day, and you gotta be willing to wait. Success comes inch by inch.

TV, movies, radio, magazines, and the media influence us everyday, and what they're teaching about success is a lie. They're selling ratings. The overnight success stories you hear about are like winning the lottery, but what you don’t hear about is the years of work and learning that people go through to become successful. There are highs and lows constantly, but if you grow from every one of them, you’re going to come out on top.

I like movies and fun but when I go to a movie, you better believe that I'd come out of that movie and make sure I decompress my brain to realize what was true and what wasn't true. I don't want to be the sucker. I hate the news. I don't even watch the news. It's full of morons, in my opinion.

Our brains have a hard time distinguishing fact from fiction. You will always jump at a horror movie. You're programmed that way. You wouldn't want that fight or flight response turned off. It would be deadly to have it turned off from an evolutionary standpoint. But, you have to be able to distinguish reality from the reality the media fabricates.

Don't be a sucker and be fooled.

It's still a cognitive bias that we can succumb to. I succumb to it. I literally have to program my brain every day. As long as you’re working on small successes every day, inch by inch, and don’t give up, you will eventually be rewarded. First base, then second base, then third base, then you get the home run. Don’t try to break that pattern.

There's a great book everyone should read called Bounce. It's about the myth of talent and Tiger Woods. Was Tiger Woods, Tiger Woods simply because he was born? Well, yes. He had a natural affinity but also by the time he was one year old, he was already swinging a golf club. That's inch by inch. Even he had his first base hit. He was slowly planting the seeds of massive golf skill at one year old. You got to put in your time.

And if that's too hard for you, then just live an average life. It's okay. We all end up in the grave. But if success brings you fulfillment and happiness, then live above average. Neither way is right or wrong, it’s just your choice. But, you want to be a person that's remembered even 10 years after you die, you have to make a name for yourself and be respected. Being remembered 10 years after you die is hard. Most people forget you.

Making something of yourself takes time and it takes effort. If you put in work over a period of time, and you work at improving yourself, you’ll eventually succeed at whatever it is you want. It’s something that you have to be disciplined about, and do it every single day. If you’re not a fast reader, read for an extra hour every day. If you’re overweight, workout on a consistent schedule. With discipline comes success
The normative pattern of human existence is trial, tribulation and struggle and occasional wins and that's what you want, and you know what? If you want happiness, how about wanting fulfillment because fulfillment is way better than happiness. Happiness comes and goes. You can be fulfilled forever. Do your duty.

What have you done today to make yourself a better person? The more answers you have, the better.

Remember, success is the accumulation of achieving small, attainable goals.

If you want to start a business, you need to make a plan, so you know exactly what you need to learn, and what you need to do. Set up a structure that's a realistic time frame. Make haste instantly. Start today, but know that you won’t be a millionaire in a month. It’s going to take time, but meet small goals every single day, and eventually, you’ll see the payoff.

Patience is something that you need to apply to every part of your life. Pay off isn’t always immediate, but sometimes, the longer the wait, the bigger the payoff.

How you're going to change to your life is day by day. You have to constantly work to get a little bit smarter, a little bit healthier, a little bit stronger, and a little bit closer to your goal and eventually, you'll get what you deserve.
