The abnormality just added character to this tomato and we had some good laughs over it !

🚨🚨This is NOT a “how to” post. 🚨🚨

What it is...

A fun way to learn more about what we should or should not do in order to get the most nutrient dense flavorful tomatoes out of the garden this year.

This is more of a give me all your tomato lovin’ advice post!!

Do you Garden?

•If you love it as much as I do, I want to send you something...

A few years ago, @beardo and I attended an organic gardening class http://www.Harmonygardens.blogspot.com

We learned a lot about gardening in general as far as the soil is concerned.

It coincided with the methods we also learned from @mericanhomestead who uses the Back to Eden method.

We are planting a shared garden this year with @dwells and @essentialoilmom. There’s about 3 acres to cultivate, so no limits on space for the garden.

We have seeds from:

•Tomato Growers (http://www.tomatogrowers.com)

•Baker Creek heirloom seed company
(http://www.rareseeds.com)

•The Seed Guy (http://www.theseedguy.net)

Hundreds of seeds for all kinds of veggies and plants!!

But I want to focus this blog particularly on

         **Tomatoes**

I will send you a package FOR FREE with a couple variety of tomato seeds... and if you specify, I can include a package of your favorite vegetable seeds.

Here are the rules:

  1. Comment with your helpful tips on growing strong tomatoes plants. (Stalk)

  2. List your best ideas on getting the tomato plant to produce fruit longer (fruit) with nutrient dense, flavorful tomatoes

  3. Upvote this post, and for an extra entry, resteem it.

All eligible posts will be entered into a drawing - to be fair and unbiased.

Ready... Set... GO!!

Living in the city or near the area I have never grown anything before. Just now learn how you grow tomatoes, lol. At least I got something out of this post even if i have no tips on growing better tomatoes. Thanks!

People in cities can still grow tomatoes if they want to.. just get a five gallon bucket or large container for your patio! 👍

I guess that one is a boy. Lots of calcium and magnesium for the tomatoes, egg shells and seashells in the tomato patch, lots of bone meal.

Most defiantly a boy! Hehehe

and lots of dolomite.

Saw the topic and was like, this I must read and it was worth every juicy word like the tomato ( it is a tomato), am actually planning to plant tomatoes next week (week starting 4th), I will comment thorougly then
#dolphinschool is really working! Love the formatting and engagement btw!

Thank you! Can’t wait to hear about your own tomato adventure! Yes, #dolphinschool is definitely sewing into my life!!

I have what would be known as a black thumb, I only plant succulents so I don't have to stress if I forgot to water them. lol..

LOL... Well you have beautiful blogs... that counts ❤️😊 and I think succulents are super amazing plants that are quite interesting. Why are they called succulents when you can’t eat them? LOL

I think succulents are super amazing

Is that what Korra says Too? 😂

haha good question, I wonder if you could eat some, I know aloe vera wouldn't kill you. Maybe something for an awesome steemian that likes writing about plants could do.

Hmmmm... im thinking I’m thinking I’m thinking
👍👍👍

@madpotters does a lot of posts on succulents, and she makes beautiful pots for them. You oughta check her out.

I will check it out! Thanks !!

Aaahhh man, this post made me sooo nostalgic... Before moving to Brazil, I lived in a mini-forest next to a river (in South Africa) and for two years, I lived an idyllic life, building, rowing up the river every day, learning to play the guitar, and tending to my herb and veggie garden...

Thanks for bringing that all back to me!
No need to send me anything because I'm a city dweller now (besides, I think Brazil is a bit far away for that anyway ;P) but upvoted! =)

It’s always a novel thing to take a trip back in time... it seems like food, especially the smell of food that does that for me.

I love growing tomatoes. Two years ago I grew some black tomatoes from Russia that were really neat. They were very dark in color and tasted great! Organic home-grown tomatoes are SOOOO good! Much better than from the store!

I have some black tomato seeds, I’ll have to see if they’re of Russian decent! Are you growing any this summer?

I'm not sure what I'll grow just yet. The only seeds I have right now are passionflower seeds. Hopefully I can get them to grow! lol

I don’t even know what passionflower is... you’ll have do tell me about it !

Purple passionflower make passion fruit. FB_IMG_1517795667957.jpg

It's one of my favorite plants! :)

wow that is really cool.... now i need some of these seeds!! Very useful and beautiful to boot... Will it grow well in Arkansas??

They grow wild all over here, in Joplin. I can send you some seed once the fruits come on this season.

We are only 66 miles from Joplin.... why mail them? hahah lets do a seed exchange :)

I have seen wild ones in Arkansas. That is the first place I ever saw them. They were all over my uncle's horse pasture there!

Really? hmmm... so horses propagate them.......

Are you from Arkansas? I see you are in Indiana... i don't think i know anyone that lives in IN.

These are the one I have seeds for thoughdownloadfile.jpg

GASP

wow what a gorgeous flower.... that is something to be proud of right there... just amazing! Now im totally jealous!! LOL

The purple ones make better tasting fruit. You'd love them! The flowers are about 4 inches wide and very colorful! They are a vine, so plant some around something they can grow on :). The plants get loaded with flowers!

Those are beautiful! I’ve got the purple ones. When I find something I love, I want to collect every variety. But I wonder if they would cross pollinate and change over a few seasons...

I don't know. People do cross pollinate them to produce hybrids, but the hybrids can look stunning themselves!

I'll be they are. But I can't imagine they get any prettier than the one you posted.

YASSSSSS! This is amazing. You've taken it all in and this post is very good marketing, while staying on topic, increasing engagement, and bringing the challenge hammer down for your audience! Critique, I would assume the gardening category has very little competition. I would have used it as my main category. Writing has the highest average payout, but if you're not getting results there, try something new. Other than that, I really got nothin, other than, you might tell me a bit more about your seeds and why they're the ones I want. Why do I want to win your prize? Beyond that, this post just needs some promotion to get seen,I think. I'll be sharing some ways to do that in the coming days. Great post, you get a resteem today. Loved it, bucket brigade, formatting, all of it! NICE!

Eeeeeek! Thank you!! I was all discouraged this morning... so this was just in time for a boost of confidence. Thanks, again! And yes! I should have talked about those seeds!!!

Unik sekali tomatnya.... Saya adalah pencinta tomat dan sering membuat jus tomat... Tapi kalo dapat tomat kayak gini lebih baik dimuseumkan tomatnya 😁

Thank you... but honestly, I have no idea what you said ... I can only read in English. I’m sorry 😞

The tomato is unique... I like tomato and i like to drink tomato juice...but i think this unique tomato is better to keep in museum than i drink it.

That is much easier to read thank you
The tomato was very funny!
Thank you for reading my blog and taking the time to comment 👍

You are welcome... 😁

I don’t do a whole lotta special that you can’t get out of a book or a quick web search. The one thing I do, I learned from a man who sells the most primo delicious tomatoes that come from anywhere outside of my back yard. He told me that on their farm they don’t water their tomatoes everyday just for the sake of watering them. They wait until the plants tell them they need watered. When the plant is just starting to show signs of wilting, they water them, but not enough to totally saturate the soil, and they water the soil, not the plant itself. I took his advise. Now, this methos requires a watchful eye because they may need watered two or three times one day, and none at all the next. But what he said would be the result was absolutely spot on. The tomatoes out of my garden, which were spectacularly delicious before, had an even more intense flavor when I started using his watering tips.

I collect heirloom seeds and I particularly love tomato seeds! I’ve got over 20 varieties right now. I’m resteeming cuz I wants them seeds!!

@powellx5

Winner winner... your name was drawn for the free seeds!
Now how do we go about getting an address for you?

Awesome! Thanks!! I’ll get my address sent right over. :)

Great! I think I will delete my email... not sure I need it on here (???) anyway, looking forward to seeing the results of the seeds!

@jeejee

Great advice! Our garden area will have zero shade... If the sun is out, they’re gonna get the shine. So the watering issue will have to have definite monitoring. Thank you for the advice and you have 2 entries! 👍
