Persistence

ASK AND THOU SHALTH RECEIVE

That's what all the good books and holy scriptures of the world say, but what they do not say is, how many times we have to ask before we receive it.

Top salesperson for example will reveal that their sales success is based on the fact that on average they might have to ask up to seven times for the business they are after, before they get it.

There are countless instances of people, who by the mere fact they persisted, achieved greatness. Henry Ford, Abraham Lincoln, Col. (KFC) Sanders, Walt Disney, Winston Churchill, to name but a few.

Walt Disney persisted though many times he was discouraged. He dreamt of being an artist of comics strips and was told by editor after editor to give up drawing, but he persisted. He dreamt of creating a character that he could express himself through. This he thought he had achieved when he created a rabbit called Oswald but an associate stole his idea and character, thought he tried to regain his right by all means possible, he failed. Heartbroken he worked on, in his old garage, where he befriended a little mouse who became the inspiration for the one and only Mickey Mouse.

Famous and successful he told of his dream to make full length cartoon movies, scorned, ridiculed and defiantly not taken seriously he still persisted. Now we have such timeless classics as Snow White, Bambi and Fantasia. He dreamed of creating a fantasy world for children young and old, that idea was also derided. Many of his closest and most trusted advisors felt they could find little they could support in his dream, but he persisted and now there are Disney Worlds and a Disney Land, each visited by many millions every year.

It is very easy of course to say persist, but what is it that enables some people to persist while others do not. Just as with Desire our Persistence is fuelled by our Belief.

Everyone, will at some time experience disappointment, feel discourage and ask themselves, is it all worth it. There will be times when everything indicates that there is no point in going on, to continue perhaps defies even, logic itself.

That is when the pure vigour of our belief will take us the extra mile, enabling us to go just that little bit further and on to do those things others seem unable or unwilling to do.
