I would like first of all to thank everyone for the generosity, the wishes and the congratulations in my previous post about my birthday. I was surprised and at the same time happy to see that there are still very generous people, pleasant and of great heart in this world. Thank you very much.

This week was a protest of social movements fighting for housing. They interdicted the avenue and set fire to tires in the middle of it. That was the scenario.

In my work as a photojournalist the biggest difficulty, so to speak, in this profession is the speed with which information nowadays runs in relation to news. Today with the massive adhesion of social networks and the internet every day faster, communications happen instantaneously and we can not, as photographic reporters wait a long time to send our photos to the news agencies when we are covering some agenda, because may a competitor to be faster than us and end up giving the news much faster. And that happens most of the time.

So today, while I'm at a place photographing some event or news, I stop every 5 minutes in some square, library, mall that has WiFi access to be able to pass the photos to my notebook, edit them and send them at the same time for the news agency. This is a huge, exhausting job and I literally have to rush to do it all. I say that the difficulty is not in capturing the image of the event or news, because it is easy, it is quiet and it is pleasant, the difficulty comes later, with a boring and time-consuming process of image editing and hoping that the upload of those images may be more fast when sending them to agencies.

The firefighters arrived and cleared the barrier of burned tires on the avenue, making way for cars and pedestrians. End of the news schedule and time to send the photos to the agency.

And there is still one though. The competition is not just that newspaper, television, magazine or website that is there at the same place, covering the same agenda as you and waiting for a vacillation of yours to gain speed in sending information about that news. Your competitor is also your fellow photojournalist who works in the same agency as you. Yes, in my city and in any city in the world, the news agencies not only keeps 1 photographer working for them and in my case here in my city it's me and 4 other colleagues ... and competitors.

I honestly find this competition funny. I believe that life is like this, it is full of challenges that we have to overcome. Learning to tolerate the other, to understand their limitations and to overcome each day is the motto of our life. In the end the lesson we learn is that we are all in this world seeking our survival, our success and our professional and personal fulfillment, there is room for everyone and we are all deserving of everything we want to achieve.

Respect, friendship, and admiration for each other's work in the end is what always prevails.
