After YEARS of Searching the Fabled Takis Brand Finally Spotted in Canada!
Takis, while a common occurance in the grocery stores and 7/11's of America are quite a rare breed up here in Canada (at least where I live. Upon seeing them on a local grocery store shelf a day ago ole @KLYE burst into the happy dance and snagged a few bags in order to finally taste this mythical rolled tortilla chip.
It's how to accurately convey exactly how much excitement and anticipation has been brewed up by the want to try Takis in any shape or form. It's been YEARS since I'd learned of their existence but up until now had been unable to find them on shelves up here in Canada.. With that being said they've been found to inhabit the stores of a local "Sobeys" grocery store chain at an on sale cost of 2 bags for $6 CAD (Canadian).
The Taste & Texture
Upon opening the bag I instantly noticed a strong BBQ smell emanating from the bag.. Admittedly I'm not a huge fan of BBQ chips which ultimately lead to a small amount of disappointment initially. The chips themselves were absolutely fucking coated in flavour powder almost to the point you wondered how the hell it didn't manage to fall off of them as you shoveled them into your mouth. When I decided to taste one I was pleasantly surprised at how Takis had done their BBQ flavouring..
Not only was it a sweet and savoury flavour but these things actually have a good degree of SPICY to them, nearly perfectly offsetting the sweet taste of the BBQ flavouring.. Hands down one of the best BBQ flavour offering I've ever tasted.
Texture wise the chips were actually quite light and crunchy, A far lighter chip than a Doritos Dinamita while still retaining an impressive amount of crunch. Was quite impressed by this lighter, flufflier rolled chip and would say I prefer them over the aforementioned Doritos.
Notable Mentions
Now when I saw on the side of the bag that they proclaimed that "Turns your tongue Blue!" I was skeptical in nature. Many products out there proclaim to turn things colours...
The flavour coating on the outside was quite neon orange and I'm not entirely sure what wizardy they contained in the bag to make everything turn blue but by the gods did it ever...
Not only did these Takis turn your tongue blue but also turned your fingers a terrifying colour ultimately resembling "the black plague" which was an absolute whore to wash off.
While these Takis rolled tortilla chips are downright delicious the side effect of turning your tongue and fingers ungodly colours while you enjoy them is the only reason that they didn't get 5 stars. You certainly wouldn't want to down a bag of these on your lunch break if you had a meeting with a client or something later in the afternoon. The blue dye contained within these delicious snacks doesn't wash off easy.. Also on a side note you're gonna shit green for a day or so after eating these things.
KLYE's Munchies Rating:
4.5 Out of 5 Steaks on the Snack Scale
I highly recommend these if you can find them and are into a spicy BBQ flavoured treat that has unusual side effects of turning your mouth neon blue.
