For as long as I can remember I have longed to write a fantasy novel, I have always loved to read them and often found myself seeing the possible scenarios and different directions the story could have gone. I enjoy watching movies and tv shows to see if I can predict where the story is going to go - unfortunately in most shows there is no real mystery and they spell it out.
For years now I have had a swarm of ideas buzzing around my head, ever evolving and morphing into something new. Finally a few months ago I started writing parts of my story, soon i realised that what I have in my mind isn't just one novel but a large series of novels with many possible further stories and backstories.
It's turned into a complex idea a whole world a new reality with new creatures, cultures and beings with abilities. I have a main character whose journey will be the primary focus, however I have already compiled complex back stories for the world and many of the characters.

Once I had realised how convoluted my ideas had become, I set out on finding a way to organise them. I have spent all my free time (until I discovered steemit) writing character profiles and trying to create a cohesive timeline, organising the details of the lands their history and I even drew a rather dodgy map - drawing is not my strong point.
I have been nervous even talking to people about it, worried I might never get it finished. But since coming on steemit I finally worked up the courage to put some of my writing out there publicly, my fantasy posts haven't gotten a massive response but I am simply stoked that people have actually read and liked some of my writing.
This coupled with the massive success I had in another post I did about Non Verbal Communication. I feel as though I should take the plunge and start posting up my original story.
The main fantasy story I have been posting on here, is actually based in the same world as the one I have been creating over the past few years. Though it is set in the future, it has the ability to be interlaced with the main storyline I am writing.

After learning a bit more about how steemit works I actually feel more secure in posting my work on here, steemit is providing me with an easy way to prove ownership and verify the date I published all my works. As someone who desperately wants constructive criticism on my work, but is terrified someone else would take my idea and publish a finished product before I could get the time to complete my idea - steemit means I can publish my work as I write it and be able to verify that I wrote it and when.
This gives all of us here on steemit a unique opportunity to develop the story over time and get you, the steemit community's opinion as I write. If you don't like the direction the story is heading, you can let me know and I may agree or I may try and explain my reasoning or even explain that it unfortunately is imperative to the overall storyline.
But the point is the reader will actually have a chance to influence the story - haven't you ever wished, you could have changed an aspect of a story or changed a character's fate. This is steemit's opportunity to take part in a massive undertaking, I unfortunately cannot garuntee will have new chapters written and posted daily.
I am actually writing everything I post, as I post it - I have nothing already written and saved ready to copy, paste and submit. This means at times I may not be able to keep things moving as fast as we all may like, but I do still have to take care of my family.

I am fully committed to steemit and writing this series of fantasy stories, I am so excited by the possibilities this platform is providing me with as a writer - I hope to one day publish a steemit peer reviewed novel (hopefully with some steemian supporters behind it).
Please let me know what you think of this idea and if you're still interested in the current story continuing, at the same time as the main story?
Thanks to steemit for this amazing opportunity!

Thanks heaps! Glad I can help encourage you to write, steemit did it for me - just a place to do it where people can share and give feedback on posts, rather than places like facebook where it's a never ending stream of likes and people not really paying any attention.

Happy to see you have found an outlet for your work. I am a big fan of the fantasy genre, what are a few of your favorite works that you would say have influenced you?

Hey there sorry for the late response, I might write a more detailed post about this soon, but off the top of my head I'd have to say my biggest influence would be Raymond E Feist I have read so many of his series he is brilliant.

I have a friend who is big into Feist, I haven't gotten around to reading any of his stuff yet though. I know a lot of his series are connected, do you generally prefer stand alones/trilogies or the larger epic series?

@fingolfin I am a fan of larger epic pieces to be honest , I love convoluted story lines that can span generations. It is one of the reasons I love Feist , it's also one of the reasons my own story is going to be so long.
I already have so much detail, I want to work into the stories I don't want to miss anything. The story already spans multiple generations and lifetimes, in my mind - I just have to get it all out.
I can say one thing it is worth getting "Magician" the first in Feist's series he has so many related series that all flow into one and other perfectly.
The last book of his I read was "Mistress of the Empire" it tells to other sides view on the Riftwar Saga, it's 860 pages long and I read all of it in just three days - I just couldn't put it down!
This is my collection of favourite books..

I'll have to put it on the list. If you enjoy larger series, I would definitely recommend checking out Malazan book of the fallen by Steven Erikson. Its one of my favorite longer series (10+ books) and its a bit grittier than Wheel of Time.

@fingolfin I will definitely check them out, I am always after new sources of inspiration and new worlds to discover. I think I definitely have a post about different writers and what has influenced me over the years.
Not sure you have seen them but here is a link to my own original steemit fantasy fiction, check it out when you get a chance and let me know what you think. This is part one but I have six parts out now.
