Tempting to think that nobody's listening

That's when it's my favourite time to write. It's perverse and contrary I know, but I never really wrote for the comments or even for interaction. Sometimes to be noticed, but enjoying the noticing being at a distance, reported somewhere else, not here, not directly, not to my face.

I've spent lots of time standing up and saying stuff. It's not a fear of doing that, of standing by what I think and saying it out loud. It's more a weariness with the to and fro. It's a desire for life to be more like a Quaker meeting. Just say what's on your mind and let others do the same. Maybe we'll talk about it another time, but not here, not now, not while it's still fresh.

And it's not an aversion to the people who I associate with. It's not about you, really, it is about me. It's not that I don't value what you have to say, just that there's so much value for me in reflective writing without being interrupted or answered or even heard.

I hear me. That's enough. Until it's not. And then I can find ears to listen. Always.

Till then.

I read but I don't always comment.
Actually I'd be happy if comments would go away on the internet.
Usually the opinion of the author is enough for me.
If I'm listening to a talk show I turn off as soon as people call in.
Not to be snobbish, but usually the people who comment or call in to shows to express their opinion are the very people who should keep their opinions to themselves.
Obviously by commenting I'm displaying that I should be one of those people who keeps his comments to himself.
I hope my throwing myself in with the great unwashed masses doesn't diminish the fact that I enjoy your writing.
