At the moment, it feels like everybody I know is currently working on self-improvement - striving to increase their own productivity, aiming to work more efficiently. Habits are playing a big role in the days of those people. As this means that building habits apparently plays an important role in achieving these improvements, I decided to try out what effects creating new habits will have on my life. I am going to dedicate the next weeks to critically try out what happens if I try to bring more routines and structure in my everyday life. In this post, I will describe which app I chose to help me support that process, why having habits are beneficial and why I want writing to be one of them.
Building new habits
Creating structured days requires strong determination and will power. Usually, I like to follow my progress when I work on such projects. As a big fan of applications, and curious about how building habits will change my life, I had a look on the AppStore for apps that would be supportive to my project. I downloaded and tested different apps which promised to help in the process of building habits. I tested Momentum and Habitify. Both are very beautiful and I can recommend using both of them. Nevertheless, I personally decided that I liked the graphs and analytics tab of Habitify a lot so I purchased the premium version and use it actively. Using an app is beneficial in many ways. It will not only motivate you by sending reminders at the right time but it will also visualize the progress. This is important for me personally, because once I remind myself that I have build a streak, I find it harder to quit something.
Benefits of building your life around habits
In life, there are good and bad habits. Adding writing to my daily to-do's will have a positive effect. At the moment, I don't really like writing and I hope, that by somehow forcing myself to repeat this task over and over again, I will get more used to it. I want to reach a state where I will perceive writing more like a conscious repetition. I want writing to be part of my daily rhythm and I believe (and hope) that writing can become so fulfilling to me, that I will start little writing sessions out of my own will. Ideally, having a habit means to do things without bigger efforts and without specifically thinking about it. I want to use the specific habit of writing as a mean to not only teach myself a new skill but I am also implementing this new habit in my life because I believe that it can make my days better.
Regular writing
Writing is one of the new habits I want to form over the next weeks. Others include getting up early, reading every day and those kinds of things (I might write a separate post on habit building at a later point in time). I want to use steemit as a platform to publish my regular writings. As a part of building this habit, I want to get better at writing summaries. This is why I am going to summarize articles on different topics that I saved over the last months and I will publish them here so more people can benefit from the key takeaways. I also hope to get some feedback and to see how my texts are perceived in order to improve or change my writing style.
Reasons to write more
Training is important and I want to train my writing skills. A certain lack of talent can be compensated by hard work. With this little exercise in form of a habit-building-project, I hope to become better at expressing myself, to become better at transmitting messages in a short and clear way. Also, writing will help me to be more reflected in the way I talk about specific topics. If you follow me here, you will stay updated on what I read (and find interesting and therefore summarize) and I will also publish articles on how building my habits is going.
Supgerglad to see you arrived in the future now ;D
