The Four Mile Sprint-A Dolbin School for the Extraordinary-Short Story-Part 2

This is a short story set in the world of my novel, Dolbin School for the Extraordinary.

You can download it for free on Amazon here. I have broken the story up into three parts because it's a few thousand words. I had originally tried to post it in one and it looked too much to read on a computer. Click here to read part 1.

Mark looked out the front window to see if anyone had followed him home. The driveway was empty. Running to the kitchen he looked in the backyard and saw no one.

“Someone has to be calling my parents, I’ve left school.” He said to himself.

Mark grabbed a Gatorade out of the refrigerator and chugged it.

There was a quiet knock on the front door. Mark dropped his Gatorade.

Mark stepped quietly to the living room.

A voice from outside the door spoke firmly, “Mr. Daniels, we know you are in there. Please come to the door. We need to talk about what has happened.”

Mark paused and took a deep breath, “Are you the police?”

“We are not the police.”

“Then I am not opening the door.”

“Mr. Daniels, we are aware that you just ran four miles in a matter of five minutes.”

Mark stared at the wall.

The voice continued, “Mr. Daniels, we are not the police. But you’re going to need some special help here very soon. And we are the only people that can help you. Your parents will be joining us soon. They are aware that we are here.”

“What are their names?” asked Mark.

“Grace and John Daniels. Do you want their social security numbers?”

The voice paused.

“Mr. Daniels. Mark. Open the door.”

Mark opened the door and there before him was a six foot man dressed in a black suit and white shirt with dark sunglasses. Mark noticed an ear piece in his left ear.

“What are you? Secret service,” gasped Mark.

“We are. But not for the president. Call me Baker, I need to show you to your ride. It’s in the back yard.”

Baker escorted Mark by the elbow, quickly to the back. Baker opened the back kitchen door.

Mark’s stomach sank. There was a black helicopter. It had short blades and jet engines on both sides.

“When did this land? I didn’t hear this land!” Shouted Mark.

“Good. That means we are doing our job correctly. Please get in.”

Mark climbed and sat next to another suitman. Baker climbed in behind Mark. Mark glanced at the two suitmen surrounding him. They both faced forward, both had an ear piece.

“Take us to school,” instructed Baker.

“Why are you taking me to school in this?” asked Mark.

“You are going to a new school from now on,” said Baker.

“I am?” shouted Mark.

“Don’t worry your parents know. Both of them will meet us there.”

“Where? Where are they meeting us? Where are you taking me?” Mark’s voice got louder.

“Your new school, Dolbin School for the Extraordinary.”

I just downloaded your book. Thank you. Will it be free for a set period of time or permanently?

I've set this one and the first book free permanently. Thank you.

You're welcome. I know firsthand just how much time and effort goes into this.

Have you published books?

Yes, though I no longer put them up on Amazon and on other stores. I just give them away on my blog.

Wow, I wasn't expecting a secret police type to show up. LOL! You got me! :)

Dolbin School is always looking forward to.
