Beginnings
One finishes and another begins
Life works in this cycle
The seed itself must die
First the coat and then the pith
Consumed by a growing sprout
A baby chick nibbles away at the yoke
The shell cracked and left behind
Out wobbles a new life
The mother hen covers her young in her wings
To guard from savage beasts
She gives her life
The eagle starts its flight
From the highest hieght
in mountain crags
Before the young are old enough to walk
She pushes them out of the nest
They open their wings but cannot fly
She allows them to plummet
but not to touch the ground
She swoops and gathers her chicks
Again she drops them
Until chicks take wing and soar
The comfy nest forgotten
A westward breeze flows
Over eagle's wings
Never faint
Never weary
Soaring to a new height
With the past behind
Straining to what is ahead
Make it what you may
Life itself begins anew today
Thank you @d-pend for allowing me the opportunity to take this one hundred day poetry challenge. I remember the day I heard D-pend's podcast about how he took to his art everyday. I'm glad he took that idea beyond words and also challenged others like myself. Although I produced a lot of poems about philosophy and education my favorite poems were those that made me laugh.
This time is a new beginning. I will still share poetry but somehow I would like to share my classroom with you. I teach fifth and sixth grade but I met a first grader in the hall I never saw before. She was shocked to see a foreigner because I'm the only Western teacher in the school. When she saw me she asked, "Who are you? There is a foreigner in our school!! Now has Korea been united?" I don't know what she was thinking but she was real cute. Maybe she thought when Korea is united a lot of foreigners will come. I have no idea what her parents told her about unification.
First and second grade are magical like a fantasy world. I remember when I was in second grade and my dad took us to the South Side of Chicago. He said it was so far south it was almost in Indiana. When I got there all I saw rows of four story apartment buildings and car alarms going off. In my mind I always thought India looked different. I expected to see some flying carpets or elephants.
It is also a chance for me to go back to the guitar and learn some songs and make my own. If my poems can improve then maybe my music can improve also.
This is day 100 and I'm glad I took this challenge. I am very thankful to those who supported me. There are too many to mention so I'm kind of embarrassed to start. But every comment, every upvote, every resteem and call out helped me to see that there is a community of poets out there and somebody is reading what I wrote. The state of steem and crypto at this point may be at a low but this poetry contest is at a high. These poems were for the Steemit School Poetry competition. You can find the discord link here: (Steemschool Discord) If your curious what day one looked like check this out: https://steemkr.com/steemitschool/@d-pend/announcing-the-steemit-school-poetry-100-day-challenge
Verse of the Day/ Isaiah 40:31
"...but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

What a great poem to end on. I love the mixture of the harshness of life and the contrasting love of design. 😎
