The warrior tribes of Djibouti were at war with one another. Each wanted to prove its superiority over the other. So they agreed that each tribe should select a seasoned warrior to battle on their behalf, to determine the superior tribe.

On the agreed date, all came with renowned, strong, agile men. But the tribe of Zizou brought a pretty woman, Sophie, as its representative. It was an astounding sight . When the battle began, Sophie, instead of fighting, began to play a flute, spinning the melody of love and gyration. Before long, the entire audience gradually began dancing to the melody and then, as if spellbound by the rhythm, the warriors started relieving themselves of their swords, knives. When Sophie suddenly stopped playing her flute, to the shame of all, they found themselves in each other’s embrace. They soon realized that behind the seeming hate they truly loved each other. All they really needed was one who could show them love’s way.

"What manner of woman is this?" The people wondered. The mystery behind Sophie's personality and flute remain classified. Till this day the tribes set aside a day each year to celebrate the Sophie's Flute.
