The Moon Girl & Her Love

6pm, June 20th 2018

The living room was quiet. Only the sound of the ticking the clock and the steady fall of water from the exquisite fountain outside could be heard. Ulva, Richard's mother, had just shared the news about their gift of lycanthropy. Richard stood leaning slightly on the bar at the corner of the room with Diana by his side. Ulva sat up straight in a single sitter chair facing Femi and Morenike, Diana's parents who were still looking rather dazed. Her gaze touched everyone directly and unflinchingly. Anyone who wasn't well acquainted with her would have thought she was unnecessarily proud and challenging. Those present in the room knew better though; she was selfless to a fault and was an unapologetic giver who dedicated herself to giving to the poor and helping the downtrodden. She was also strong and independent but they all realized now why her strength had always been so distinct. She was a werewolf and so was her son Richard. The Thompsons were shocked but not horrified by the revelation. As a matter of fact, they were fortified by the news. They had been at a loss regarding how to prevent their daughter from being taken from them on the 28th. Now they had a defender but no one knew what to expect at the next full moon.

Richard and Ulva had moved temporarily into the guest wing of the Thompson's huge mansion. Both Richard and Diana had gotten leave of absence from work preferring to spend every moment together until "doomsday". Ulva had been training her son on how to use and harness his powers effectively. Richard and Ulva, in their werewolf forms, were fearsome creatures indeed and although they trained in the untamed forest area at the farthest part of the estate, the Thompsons could still hear from the main house. Sometimes, Diana creeped out to stealthily to watch them. They had superhuman senses, super strength, speed, agility, and superb night vision and always knew as soon as she came out as well as exactly where she hid. Ulva told her son to leave her be, insisting that Diana needed to see him in his shape-shifted form to get used to him that way. Richard got injured often in the early stages of their training but he possessed the gift of rapid healing, endurance, and immortality in his werewolf state and always ended unscathed and unhurt.

28th June, 2018

The day of reckoning dawned bright and early. Birds chirped happily in the orchard and the air was beautifully laced with the fragrances from the well-tended gardens around the mansion. Inside the house, it was an entirely different story. The inhabitants were quietly tense and moved around almost gloomily. An atmosphere of fearful expectation permeated the house and everyone seemed to hover protectively around Diana. She was so tense, getting startling easily at every sudden sound. Richard watched her, his dark and intense gaze following her every move. "I love you D and will not lose you today" he kept telling her silently without words. With his newfound abilities had come the gift of telepathy. He could speak to anyone with his mind and could even hear their thoughts if he concentrated fiercely. He knew how scared everyone was and he couldn't wait to get it over and done with. He hated the way Diana was trembling and so with his telepathic skills, he showed her a clear vision of both of them standing strong in defense against any enemy. "Look at us D, we would be fine" he told her silently. She calmed down visibly and even began to smile a little after that and his heart blossomed with love for her.

8pm, June 28th 2018

When the full moon was at its brightest, the air was suddenly filled with singing, so sweet and heart-wrenching it made the heartache. They all looked out of the window to see the glittering, shinning Lucinda singing by the fountain. There was a very handsome, tall, white and glowing male moon creature beside her with a crown on his head; the prince of Moonland! The words of Lucinda's song were foreign but the meaning was as clear as though she was singing in English. It was time for Diana to meet her betrothed! Diana began to walk out of the house in a trance with outstretched arms and no matter how loudly they called her name, she couldn't seem to hear. She began to glitter, glow and shimmer like the other two moon creatures as soon as she stepped outside. Richard stepped out into the moonlight right after her and shape-shifted into his werewolf form. The moon prince stepped forward to take Diana's hand but the werewolf leaped in between them. The moon prince roared in anger at the interruption and the werewolf roared right back at him even more fiercely!
