The statue of Zeus at Olympia, Greece.
Phidias who is know as the finest sculptor of the ancient world in the 5th century BCE is a Greek sculptor and he created the statue of Zeus at Olympia. He also worked on the Parthenon and the statue of Athena all there in Athens.
The statue which is 40 feet talldesigned, that is designed to inspire all worshipers of Zeus who came to the Temple of Zeus at Olympia is depicted seating h on his throne, with his skin of ivory and robes of hammered gold.
Although the temple itself is a very large one, the sculptor is critized having not appreciated in correct proportions the size of Zeus and the temple as he showed the god Zeus seated, with his head almost touching the ceiling, which means that he is giving the impression that if Zeus moved to stand up he would unroof the temple.
With the rise of Christianity and the ban on the Olympia games as pagan rites the temple at Olympia fell into ruin and was carried to Constantinople where it was later destroyed, sometime around the 5th and 6th centuries by an earthquake.
