“In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood.”

This quote is from the play Henry V. It is spoken by the king before his army goes into battle.

The beauty of the quote is that it shows how great men are to act in war and in peace. There is no honour in being unnecessarily tough and violent in times of peace. A true warrior only acts violent when at war. Defending your honour is only necessary in very few situations. If violence and courage are called for, you should be ‘tiger-like’. In peace there is nothing more important than being calm and measured. This shows appreciation for peace and prosperity.

As a side note, think of the courage it takes to stand side by side with other soldiers and be willing to give your life for a cause that you believe in. That’s so brave and admirable.
