Did you know # 10: The vehicle with the highest mileage!

in writing •  5 years ago

High mileage shows a well built and well maintained vehicle. Although most people seem to change their cars every few years, we know that some people maintain their used vehicles for a long time.

In rare cases, some vehicle owners and especially long-haul truckers can accumulate more than one million kilometers on a single vehicle, which is equivalent to driving around the Earth (equatorial perimeter) while driving. At a speed of 90 km / h, you would need more than two years of continuous driving to cover that distance. But what about the car with the highest mileage?

On 18 September 2013, in the United States, Irvin Gordon recorded his four millionth kilometer on the odometer of his 1966 Volvo 1800S as he was driving near the village of Girdwood, south of Anchorage, Alaska . As of May 1, 2014, he had traveled 4,890,992 kilometers. With this figure, the driver totals the equivalent of nearly 120 turns of the Earth.

The man bought his car on June 30, 1966 for $ 4,150 at age 25, and said he would sell it if he got a dollar a kilometer. But a gray card application for a car with such a high mileage will be really complicated to deal with.

Irvin drives his car daily and travels about 140,000 to 160,000 km per year. The longest distance he drove at one time was from New York to Vancouver (4700 kilometers).
