I have appeared for IELTS exam and this is the topic which was there in Part 2 of the writing section. The complete topic was "Not every criminal should be kept in prison, rather they should be made to do unpaid work to help the people in the communities"

Everybody out here would have different thinking about this. Some may agree, some may disagree. I would like to share my view points on this.

I totally agree with this that "Not every criminal should be kept in prison, rather they should be made to do unpaid work to help the people in the communities".

Not every criminal is same. Every criminal is not a professional criminal or has the intentions to do the crime. At times, it is because of the situation that they have to commit crime. A perfect example that I can relate to this is from a recent video I saw. As we all know that beating anybody is a crime and beating a women is a super crime, a person was seen slapping a girl in the video. But footage was quite long about a minute or two where the women was seen harassing the guy, slapping him before his actions. She was totally drunk. So this was not his fault or intentions to slap her but it was the situation where he was left with no option Now if this would not have been recorded and the women would have filed a case, the guy has the chances of being declared as the criminal.

Not every criminal is a criminal. Saying this, I mean that the person has not even commited the crime but because of some false evidences, he was declared as the criminal and is charged for this. Since he is not at fault so keeping him in prison will pollute his mind as he is surrounded by some actual criminals who are always up with the intensions to commit crime. He may become a criminal because of the wrong decision taken for him to keep him in prison.

Keeping them in prisons makes them socially unfit and they find hard to fit in the society. Their personal development is hindered. They are not aware of the current affairs. Also, keeping them in prison increases their chance of becoming the real criminals.

But if they are allowed to help the people in the community, they would be socially fit. Their personal development also takes places. They will be aware of the current affairs. The would always have some positive vibes around them. They will surely realize their mistakes and will have the high probability of improving themselves.

There are many other reasons too.

This was my view point. I am sure some of you may agree and some of you may disagree. But I would love to know. Let me know your view points. Are my points valid?
