Great article. But I think every contribution is original as every human is original. Of course that's a philosophical point of view. Considering social media Steemit aspect we need more "leaders" in creativity. As you can see the hot page is becoming a page of repetative content with more or less all the same people "reesteming" their previous succesful articles.

Why should we even be able to re-steem our own article? Patting ones self on the back never accomplished anything.

That's what i have found to work the best, find advice and mentors, then take from it what works for you. You dont have to apply EVERYTHING, just use what works in your field, job, life, relationship, etc.
Be you, but let the advice and experience from others help you be a better you.

Your post is nourishment for lost souls like myself caught in the confusing limbo Steemit creates between my best self and my least intention, which is to make money. Ultimately, we are all on here with the hope of financial freedom, most more than others, but I do believe there is a small population on steemit that views blockchain technology as the tool that will solve epic societal problems. I consider you one and I like to think I fall into that category as well, but the battle against spammers, scammers, and politics, still wages on even in what arguably could become the content utopia.

T'is an ongoing journey here. I've definitely had my battles between the pure intentions and profit motivations, and still do at times.
Like you say, blockchain is a tool - though ultimately, it comes down to how the tool is used.
There will most likely always be politics, corruption, etc in any human domain. Nonetheless, we must carry on committed to our values. The platform is still very young, and there are always trials on the path.
Your feedback is appreciated. Stuff like this is my way of giving back - as really, I could be writing on all other kinds of topics. I was lucky to get in and experience some success early, so always want to pass on some of what i've learned to the newer generations of steemians such that they may benefit from a shortened learning curve and maximize the value they bring to advance the shared vision. Sometimes I don't know for sure whether that is the actual case or I'm just indulging in more circle jerks - so reading that such content is indeed providing nourishment to others like yourself here is much appreciated. 💙

Thanks for this post, I found it when I searched for "Karen Dietz", to read about curation on steemit.
Even if this post doesn't touch the subject I was looking for, it's a great template for content pieces what you've shared from your For Dummies book reading.
Now, I'm commenting because your article set off my thoughts in a whole different direction. I saw it was a good article, and that it was 2 years old. It struck me again, like many times already on this platform.
It's a pity that empowering and actionable content like this has the potential to earn only when it's released, and not years later when other persons find and find it still useful/
I see that it earned you 85+ dollars, you've been lucky with it. The problem is those starting out, if they don't have patience, money to get SP and initial exposure, and a strategy for the content, any content as good as this might not reach a reasonable compensation for the value they've put in.

@rok-sivante- You have really captured the essence of story telling in your article. While some writers and artists argue that they create for themselves and do not care what others think, I feel that a story has to impact the target group emotionally, intellectually and in other ways that you have described. Thank you for this perceptive blog. I am a newcomer to the world of blogging (only 25 days old minnow on Steemit). I will definitely be guided by the principled that you have brought up.
Upvoted and followed you.
I have 'wasted' my weekend without getting 'wasted' and written a rather philosophical post about my butterfly and bee pictures called Float/Sting..What is your strategy. I request you to see and provide your views if you have time. Your comments will be very welcome. Thanks

Isn't it interesting how we tend to make "work that earns us money" into something SERIOUS by default?
In the "real world" of 9-5 jobs, that's how it is. Hard work is serious. But as I get older, I realize how many people make a living, or at least a life, out of the less serious things...
The rock and roll musician isn't so serious.
The comedian isn't so serious.
The janitor - why does he or she have to be serious?
This idea that "real work" must be combined with a stiff, formal tone... that idea is the old way! I think we're learning how to be fun and still meaningful, as a society.

Amen.
Yeah, this can be a sticky one. Sometimes I feel rather silly, enjoying the freedom to earn my living on this platform, writing when and where i choose - yet still being so fucking serious about it. Though, like anything - practice, practice, practice. Little by little, every new story presents new opportunities to loosen up in different ways, give less fucks, and have fun in the process.
Blah blah blah. 👽👹😎

Good stuff - it's a piece of writing shows who you are and truely engage with others in act of service through means of value. I've discovered the pattern and opportunity of new innovation is because it gets very useful and better, it gets very sh*tty - appreciate the good and bad, for one cannot exist without another. Thanks for sharing!

Fantastic writing @rok-sivante! I think you’re overqualified for that book if I do say so myself!
While you drew an analogy to business storytelling, I like to also think of this universe as an epic Jazz song in which we are all players with our own part in the solo.
Maybe I’m myopic, having been muddled in Jazz music theory all weekend, or perhaps onto something slightly above a sophomoric spin on Shakespeare. Anyway…I’ll explain what I mean.
The best players are really the best listeners. There isn’t anything more divine than watching the masters build off the ideas, emotions, and story the group is telling and together creating something far greater than the sum of the parts. Likewise, there isn’t anything more off-putting than listening to a bunch of disjointed noise fail to develop any semblance of a conversation because everyone is off doing their own thing.
So, to build on the connection and narrative aspect of storytelling you talked about, I hope to see more people attempt to interlock their narratives into a far more integrated and intricate story through Steemit.
The Steemit developers certainly have a role to play here with facilitating this, but we can do more with what we already have. This extends just the same to replying to stories as well – really think about the author’s story and develop the narratives within it by really listening carefully before speaking.
For example, @ervin-lemark is doing a great job in this aspect by encouraging others to join his run everyday lifestyle and putting forth a template for community organization and contribution around an aspect of wellness he is passionate about. I’ll be starting today and look forward to growing it and seeing how the people and the project develop together through it.
I’m optimistic for more community organized initiatives and open projects I can commit to, as well as playing a part in introducing them myself. While it is one thing to idealize the perfect environment, for it to happen we all need to play our small part in leading as well as following.
Oh… and hope you enjoy the book by the way! I remember my first For Dummies was C++ For Dummies 5th edition in my forlorn ambitions to create a video game when I was just getting into programming as a wee lad.
All the best, thanks for sharing ~
