Reminiscent of a Dream #4

Fight or Flight

We follow our social cues.
We follow our training.
The obvious things of the past were taught to us as “common knowledge.”
We weren’t expected to think outside of that box because of the social constraint.
We were actually taught to distrust our instincts because we never fed our instincts enough energy to be activated.
We were led to believe that others would take care of us via the government and police, which forms of control actually relieved the sense of personal responsibility needed for one to think on their own.
Moments such as the one when it all began completely relied on the soul of the individual experiencing the unknown.
I had enough training in hiding to realize the truth of needing to be free from the trap of other minds in concert. Subconsciously, I went to the restroom to break free of the impossible reality just moments away.

From the bathroom, I felt the strangeness spread through the magnetic mind web of invisible connection.
Quixotically, I took a sharp breath and emerged back into the office.
Not a single person made noise.
All were in rapturous disbelief as they crouched and crammed into small office spaces.
Eyes met my own, and my back slouched.
A person rang out a sigh.
The air smelled of a musk like heavy breath from deep within the lungs.
Sickly halitosis registered.
My eyes widened.

Just as most dreams fade or morph before becoming something else or ending, this story has one more installment before it too shall morph. I like relishing in a quick bit of luscious prose, so I hope you will join me toward that end!
