Here are some writing Mini-Habits you can apply. You have to beat on your craft and work really hard. You need to work those writing muscles. In our lives habits play a crucial role in our development. We don't need 20 habits, yet we can work on 2 a day then move on to other ones. 2-3 small habits a day can make a difference.

  1. Six O'Clock Fake News - Pretend something unique happened today, and write a story of some big news that imaginarily happened. Create a story as you are the reporter writing the story. This is a writing exercise, not a political attempt at satire.

  2. Heart Writing - Closes your eyes take 3 deep breaths then write whats in your heart in that moment. Your thoughts. You can do it much like a diary.

  3. Cereal Box - When reading ingredients on a product such as a Cereal box. Take that word and put it into a few sentences. Tell a story with that ingredient.

  4. Edit - Find an article you love and re-write it in your own words.

  5. Random word writing - Use this website and generate some words. http://www.textfixer.com/tools/random-words.php
Then take those words and create a story. Be silly with this one.

  6. Forgiveness writing - Write a letter to someone else to forgive them. Then throw the letter away. The point is just to get those feelings out. See if you conceive the possibility. Meditate on it. Not only is it therapeutic it also allows you to get creative with words.

  7. Present tense - Write as if something happening write now.

  8. Past tense - Write as if it has already happened.

  9. Virtual Setting - Pick a virtual setting in your mind. One that does not exist, but only exists in your mind an write one paragraph about it.

So useful thanks for this blog

Your welcome any time.

I have lots of things in my mind that could only possibly exist in my mind. ;-)
LOL

The mind is a dangerous tool. It can cook an egg or fry a human being. Intentions are the gps.

Great tips! I can't tell you how many times I'd have a deadline and writers block made it seem even worse than the crunch of the clock. I think another thing that helps is if and or when people can just go out for inspiration and talk to random people as to practice their improvisational skills. Most people think that writing comes naturally and it can but the thing is it needs to be practiced.

If you get writer's block. Walk away go to the store and remove all thought from the project. The answer will come.

Rewriting is such a boring work though

Repetition is boring, yet discipline is needed as a writer, or its nothing more than "just a hobby."

Rewriting is so much more fun for me than writing a first draft. It's where the magic happens!

Jessica, did you appreciate this post?

Yeah, some more great exercises here (haven't had a chance to do the ones you posted yesterday yet, but I will). The cereal box one seems fun!

You would love that one. It is very helpful. Leave a note pad around the breakfast table the night before, or record in your smart phone then transpose it later.

It is an it requires discipline. Working out at the gym sucks too, yet I do it because it serves a growth purpose.
