Why pirates wore eye patches??
Most wont care and will think this is stupid but I actually didn't know this till a while back.
Some people think its because they might have had a wounded eye, but most say it was for there vision, and being able to see above decks and below them. pirates quite often moved from above deck to below deck, so they went from daylight to near darkness. Well the patch helped the eye to adapt when switching so they can see. So when the pirate went below deck he could switch the patch to the outdoor eye and see in the darkness easily.

That's IS really interesting. You know these survival flashlights that are super bright... they are used to blind people with night vision and really everyone who is hiding in the dark. Sure they help you see in an emergence but it's tactical too. : )

I was in a certain meeting one time and a guy came in with a patch. He said there was no wound in his eye but that one of his eyes were weaker than the other. So to strengthen the weaker eye he put the patch on the stronger eye.

Not being able to see the enemy will kill you faster than not knowing how far away he is. The depth perception in the other eye should adjust quickly enough. If nothing else parry until you can get him.
