“Please, God help me” Susan said, praying quietly.
She was still listening…and they were still talking.
She stood and walked toward her window. The weather today was not good; it was raining cats and dogs. The heavy, wet raindrops pounded on the window glass. She watched the rain pour down onto the pavement outside. Everything looked so grey, so sad and grey.
“Please God,” she said again. “I know you are very busy, sending love around the world helping people, but I need your help now. What should I do? If you hear me, please show a sign."
She sighed loudly, feeling anxious and lost. To her amazement and surprise, the rain stopped falling, and the sun came out. She watched with her eyes wide open as she looked up into the sky.
There, high above her, was a beautiful, shining rainbow running across the sky, big and bright with all the colours of the rainbow stretching from one end of the town to the other end.
Of course she had seen a rainbow before, many times in her lifetime. In fact, it was nothing unusual to see a rainbow, but now, all of a sudden, out of the blue?
Now that was very strange!
The sunlight warmed her face and body, and she felt something, something warm flowing through her body inside, making her understand.
Freeing her mind.
A sign. She really did believe it was from God. He had sent her a message, a sign.
Now she knew…what to do.
She walked away quietly back to her desk, but she stopped in her tracks when her door was roughly opened with force, and a man stormed in.
She quickly ran to turn off her intercom device, then she braced herself.
She was ready to defend herself. No matter what!

Anne Smith slept deeply, unaware of what was happening around her. While she was lost in sleep, in her own world, her bag and clothes were being searched by the hospital staff.
Now her true identity was revealed. They rung and informed her parents of the tragic news and immediately, they were on their way to Alabama.
Sheriff King read the fax paper. “She’s from London, England. A tourist. What’s a tourist doing here in Kellyton?”
“Is she white?” The Deputy asked.
“Yes, she’s white! Why the hell did he shoot her?” Sheriff bellowed with anger.
“Maybe, she was a criminal; there are a lot of criminals from England.” The Deputy pondered.
“Yeah, sure…but they don’t all live here in Alabama.” Sheriff King said annoyed.
“Ok,” the Deputy muttered.
“Don’t you see it Jim?” The Sheriff said, addressing the Deputy by his name. “If she is from England, that’s trouble for us. Then we cannot cover up for him. The hospital called her parents. This could be the end of my future career, before it has even started. The death of our circle.”
“The death of her,” the Deputy said slowly.
“What?” Sheriff King focused his once, stern eyes, on the Deputy as he relished in the sound of ‘death.’
The Deputy continued. “If she dies, then there is no case. Dead people can’t talk. That’s the only way we can save your son. Save ourselves. If she talks, we all go down. You know that, Sheriff.”
“Yes…I know. We have no choice, we must silence her, before her parents come asking too many questions, maybe with the press or even the FBI. If she is dead, then no more questions, only answers. We will make her look like a criminal, a drug dealer. We’ve done it before right?” Sheriff said confidently.
“Right…good. Let’s go to the hospital now and arrest her. When are her parents coming?”
“Late tomorrow…now hold on, take it easy Jim…first we must wait until my son comes. It shouldn’t be long now. Have patience, then we will go to the hospital, take her out and end everything! Ok?”
“Ok.” The Deputy quickly replied.

She thought it was the Sheriff who came barging in to catch her! She was so lucky it was his son.
David King Junior. His father’s pride and joy. She hated him for what he was…a cold-blooded murderer. He looked exactly like his father. She stared at him coldly, holding back her disgust of him.
“Susan,” he said, still holding on to the open door. “Is my father in his office? Is he alone? …Please, tell him I am here.”
“No…just go in. He is waiting for you, we are all waiting for you. He’s with the Deputy.” She said, not looking at him. “Please go in.”
As soon as he was gone, she picked up her bag and jacket and ran out of her office. She only slowed down to tell a female officer that she was sick and was on her way to the doctor.
I’ve heard enough. She thought to herself. Now I must act. I must reach the hospital before they do!
How many minutes do I have? 5, 10 minutes?
She jumped into her small car, and drove as fast as she could, hoping nobody from the police station noticed her.
At last, she reached the hospital. It took her just under 6 minutes. She breathed in deeply. “Wow, that was quick,” she said softly.
Then she started to make her plan!
Plan 1: How do I get her out?
Plan 1 plus: How do I find her?
Then she remembered the fax. Before she gave it to the Sheriff, she had made a copy for herself first. There was all the information she needed, her name, her age, even the hospital room number was on it.
Plan 2: Hide her from the police, until her parents arrive.
Plan 3: Where? Anywhere that was safe.
Plan 4: Saving Anne Smith.

Ha! Man as quickly as your stuff gets upvoted I'm thinking you should start an old fashioned email list... charge $19.95 per month to give people a heads up when you're about to post ;)
[email protected] I'll be your Trial group / Beta tester anytime Sir! Maybe even texting would be better, haha!

I'll take that as a compliment, haha! I was in the first 5 I think - this time! Still learning the "how soon is too soon? dynamic tho, it's weird. "Be in the first 20 votes" vs "Wait to vote 15 - 30 minutes for maximum rewards" is a pain to balance. And of course impossible with you!

Your mind is absolutely brilliant. You've woven so many different perspectives and plot lines together to the point where I believe you could direct film or dedicate an entire book to some of your stories.
If you haven't already, I think you should sell an ebook or a hard copy of all your stories in one volume and offer it here. It really is that good (I'm not usually a big fan of fiction, but time and time again you have drawn me in to your stories).
You have a way of bringing characters to life so that they have real characteristics and are not stagnant boring linear beings to further your story.
I'm not sure where this story will go, but I am going to be waiting for future installments.

Also it's interesting that a rainbow was chosen. For those who believe in the bible, that was a sign that there would never be a flood over the whole earth. And now it is also a symbol of acceptance for many LGBTQ people. It's also the name of the Hawaii college team. The Rainbow Warriors.
