When we find our values, we should not be surprised if some of them seem contradictory. This is a natural result of taking values from a variety of sources, including culture, religion, and what inspires people around us, mentors, educational resources, and so forth. What matters is that we continue to work through these conflicts until we feel the true values of ourselves.
Because our values seem to be in conflict, it does not mean that we necessarily abandon them. We have values for all different aspects of our lives, so it is normal to be different.
Avoid focusing on the past and not allowing ourselves to grow. One of the most unhealthy methods for ourselves is to make the decision that we may be formed at a moment or an earlier period of time, and then spend the rest of our lives trying to be that person of the past unchanged, rather than someone who continues to grow with each season and every a decade. Allow yourself this time zone for growth and improvement, to become more wiser.
We have to work to accept the mistakes and choices we have made, have happened and ended in the past. We had our reasons, and any decision we made was appropriate at the time, so instead of blaming ourselves for the mistakes of the past, we have to take lessons from them and continue to grow.
Over time, our strengths may change. Our definition therefore changes to ourselves, but we should not stop focusing and refocusing it. Our strengths are more than enough to balance our flaws, which is the main reason why we do not compare ourselves to others because we find what we have most of what they have. Comparing ourselves to others may lead to resentment. A person filled with resentment can not focus on the slogan "be yourself" because he is too busy observe someone else!
Change is permanent. Even a change that happens more than once is inevitable. It may be good if we have stayed informed, always relevant to the world around us and what changes in it, and allowed our personality to be a top priority in our lives. Even if our friends look different, we should not back down from being ourselves, and if they do not accept it then they are not our true friends. No matter what others say or do, we must always be loyal to ourselves. We do not impose change on anyone.
