Well I've had several new projects lately that were custom work so I thought I'd share them with you guys and go a little bit into the processes I go through to make them!
This is a recent custom order that I did, and I started by screwing the boards into two firring strips in the back, which unfortunately makes the sign very heavy, but sturdy. I then stained it with a gray stain (mixed for me by the lovely people at the hardware store) and dry brushed the white until it had the coverage I wanted. I then let the paint dry, and mod podged over it. This is a trick that I learned recently when working with the paint pens.. Always ALWAYS modpodge (matte finish recommended) when using paint pens, it will keep them from clogging!
After modpodging, I stenciled out the letters in pencil and colored them in with the gray. The "loves" part was free hand, and the arrows were part painters tape, part free hand. After it dried i applied another coat of mod podge to seal it, and you would not Believe the effect that sealing has on projects, it makes them look so finished!
Also, when using the paint pens, you will have to go over the letters over and over until it looks right.
As you can probably guess, it's very very time consuming, but the end result is Soooo worth it!!! And it's definitely rewarding to do something you love (:
Ciao for now 😘
Good stuff
