Starting A New Story Is Hard - Getting Back In The Groove

Not having written ANYTHING since 2015, I’m finding that working on a previous story is one thing. But starting a brand new story from scratch?? It’s like learning an old job all over again after having an extended vacation.

As some of you know, I’m unofficially participating in the Write Club challenge. I’m so glad it’s unofficial, because I didn’t begin writing my new story till last night (see the wee bit of scribble in the photo above?).

At first I was having trouble finding the time to start. Being a mother of a very active toddler, the struggle was real. But I realized yesterday I just have to make the time if I really want to do this. No more excuses!

I’ve always done better with pen/pencil and paper, so last night after she went to bed I whipped out my notebook and started working. I didn’t get far but it’s a start!

But now, in the time it took to write this post, the little miss is up so I need to go get her and get our day started.

I hope all of you have a wonderful day! And remember, if you’re having trouble getting something started, set aside some time just for that thing, and just start working. Pretty soon you’ll have something going, even if it’s rough and unpolished. And then, if you need help polishing it, come join us at @thewritersblock!

I hadn't written for something like 7 years when I joined the block (only we were fiction-workshop on MSP then). And not with any focus for 9 or 10. I started out just editing. But then I read a contest prompt and a few days later I dreamed pieces of a story. That kicked me off in the first piece of Misty Vale. If you need help brainstorming or talking through pieces, just yell! But I know how hard it is to start again after a hiatus. I've been struggling with my writing since I was away for 3 weeks in October then exhausted and sick from jetlag a few weeks more after I got home.

Wow! I hope you’re feeling better! I might take you up on the brainstorming offer, hahaha.

You've so got this. Those scribbles add up!
Plus, since you're not officially in the Write Club (though you are to me :D ), you can stretch the deadlines a tad, or maybe have the handwritten version done when we have to have it all typed up and ready!

I might start typing it up when you guys are editing, cause usually when I transfer from handwritten to typing a lot of editing takes place so it'll be like I'm also editing with you guys.

Of course that's assuming I finish the handwritten portion by then....

Awesome! You'll still post it in the queue, right?

Of course :)

Good luck in your writings. Cool coffee mug too. :)

Thank you! And that’s my new favorite mug, got it for Christmas.

I haven't written much since having Melody. But I don't feel like my fire for writing has gone out. You and I do plenty of writing in blog form or status updates on facebook. hehe. It keeps us from getting rusty! Lookin' forward to hearing more about your new story. :)

I've gotten more practice writing for Steem than I ever did on Facebook, hehe.

It'll be a while before the new story sees any light. But I'm also finishing up a story that I started years ago. You'll probably start seeing that one first :)
