The Cliffs

The great cliff-side stretched many miles, and rendered the terrain north of Aleria completely inaccessible. The cliffs were steep and eroding, many people had perished in their attempts to climb them. There were built several smaller passages and lifts, but none provided any sustainable access to that part of the land. And to travel around you would had to either pass through the forsaken lands – a place where no man would go voluntary, or travel around – through the forests, past the Alps, and over the Springwater Rivers... A journey that would take many months.

But as the great hill was built, the northern terrain suddenly became more integrated with the other parts of the world. Many migrated there, and a new area of settlement came along, with the hill of Aleria being the major gateway. However, the hill was not just a route to the north, it was also a significant hallmark of the city itself, and was largely owned and controlled by Citadel of Etopia. And even though the northern route preliminary was laid outside of the citadel walls, it didn't take long before the walls were built out, and soon enough everyone was obliged to pay tolls to be granted passage.

The northern terrain became an exclusive area for the wealthy, and the city of Aleria ended up being a crossroads that divided two regions – the highlands region, and the greenvale region. The hundred meter tall cliff-side served a border for these territories, and not before long all lifts and all passages to the highlands were guarded by the citadel - no one was allowed entry without permission and requisite, and all attempts to do so was answered with assault.
