Scattered thoughts evaporate before they can collide with my purpose this day.
Summoned from a lengthy slumber, I climb the steps of the now-weathered
Fortress and calculate the sum of five centuries worth of transformation.
Looking out upon a sea of red, black and white, my heart swells with an eternal
Connection to each of the souls who have gathered here in proud defiance.
The cadence of drums and pipes filters through the throng, causing an uprising
Of desire within me to be seen in the flesh, to lead them in their age-old plight.
Alas, it cannot be; yet my spirit has been awakened by their cries, and I will deny
The false comfort offered by the cold walls of the tomb when freedom is at stake.
