Domestic violence is the abuse of one’s spouse which is mostly found in the home. Domestic violence could be physically (beating, dragging or forcefully doing what he/she doesn’t want to do), sexually (rape), emotionally (keep up degrading such fellow).This is very common in homes, even in early stage of marriage. My pastor will always say if a man will raise his hands on a woman, it will start from courtship, during courtship you will see signs that this man hits women.
I have a friend very close to me, she just left a marriage of just one and the half year due to domestic violence, do you know that the man beats her even during pregnancy? Thank God she and her baby didn’t die although she has to start all over again from the scratch because she left the home. As it is popularly said ‘life first’.

I have another friend that suffered from the same domestic violence, this time around it was coming from the step-mother, she beats her almost every day till she was forced to leave the house in order to save her life. Thank God she is already serving and very soon get a good job, will get married and start a proper living in her home.

When you take a good look at the people that engage in this abuse (domestic violence) you will find out they are suffering from low self-esteem, sadness, take alcohol ,use drugs, take hard substances, some even learn it from their parents(they see their father beat their mother).Children learn very fast, what they see you doing as a parent they copy it immediately, some children also suffer this trauma for a long time because of the daily occurs of violence in the home.

For the victims of domestic violence please don’t shy away from opening up to people(God fearing counselors that will counsel you on what to do)there are also NGOs that help the victims please visit there for help on time .It is better to seek help on time so that your life won’t be cut short. For the people living around the abuse please call the police to help that person out.

I decided to write this article to encourage good counseling before marriage so that domestic violence can be avoided in our homes, spread the word ‘LET’S STOP DOMESTIC VOILENCE TODAY’.
