Movies are fucking violent. People are just as so. We’re creatures of influence whether it be repeating funny lines we hear, or letting songs get stuck in our head from a single listen. It’s impossible to think that the arts don’t affect us, and influence the patterns of our behavior. So with all the violent games and shows and songs and movies, can one really not make a correlation between violence seen with violence committed? As a child of the Goldeneye era, who has played first person shooters my whole life, I can say proudly, I’ve never shot up a crowded area. But is that just luck or coincidence or a matter of time?
Are we more attuned to violence than before this type of media, or can it be the cautionary tale that the artists intend for it to be?

That's a good question. Violent movies give us the kick, the exposure to dangerous situations that our nature crave. I think it's near the bottom of my post: https://steemit.com/life/@j-alhomestudio/surprising-reasons-why-office-jobs-can-be-boring

Absolutely they cause violence. Think that you switch on TV and see people shooting them in a movie, TV series or you see someone killed people in anywhere that you see in news.
And you play game to relax, to staw away from stress but how do you do it? By killing anyone in a game. It absolutely causes violence in your real life.

No, they do not cause violence. What causes violence is a lack of self-control. Where do kids learn "lack of self-control"? How about a parent that can't keep a lid on their temper?
I found a study that was done back in 2002 that shows a very strong correlation between corporal punishment and school shootings. You can read it <a href="https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/841c/25799f333a0e834a1ca6de84ddadeebf3aa6.pdf". It's interesting that study didn't really make the news. If it did, well, adults might have to modify their behavior.
Violence is taught, it is not instinctual. Someone who is not raised by violence will probably not want to watch a violent movie, anyway. Someone who was raised with empathy will probably feel a little nausea watching people get creamed in a fight in a movie.
When kids are hit by adults, the adults are teaching kids what it means to not have control over how they act when their emotions are strong. When adults have strong feelings, but can sit down and talk to their kids, kids learn how to soothe themselves and talk about their feelings and thoughts. That's the difference between no control and self-control.
I hope that someday, the human race figures this part out.

You raise some very valid points, thankfully, I was never hit as a child and would never consider hitting mine.

Actually yes, violent movies and games cause alot of violence in kids.
As kids get used to pictures of killings, fights and blood scenes, it's psychological that they won't mind doing it in real life.
Some movies and games have banned in some countries like china.
It's true, they have a big impact on the conduct of kids most especially violence, and things like theft.

So you think it's basically de-sensitizing them? I can agree with that.

What we see brings changes in our personality & attitude. Violent movies may change our attitude to violence especially kids adopt things quickly.

There is definitely a link between violent movies and games to violent behavior in humans. I bought a collection of Jet-lie movies for my friend's son and within minutes of watching the movie the 7 years old kid started practicing kungfu moves!

I think we are more attuned to violence because of news media and politics, not movies and video games. Tragic events are sensationalized by both news and politics and analyzed ad infinitum.
People with mental issues and lack of self control cause violence. We all lack self control now and then. We make poor decisions when we lack control. Emotions get away from us and before we know it we've said or done something we wished we didn't. Without self control it doesn't matter what you watch or play when you lose your patience, sanity or temper.

Well that depends on individual. There are folks who can easily be influenced by certain movies. If we can divert a bit to adult movies, it could have huge effects. Horror movies too on folks especially when alone in the dark and for action thrillers like Rambo type movies, some crazy folks see themselves as the actor and acted it out. So yes, shit happens. Nice one. 👍

I think for some kind of people ( great part of humanity) it normalizes the violence.
On the other side movies, games etc. Are just a reflection of society.
In my opinion "normality" is overrated and "humanity" is getting lost day by day
