Writing a story using newspaper article headlines. Day 1. Vast areas no longer shielded.

This is a new writing exercise for all of us aspiring fiction writers. Every day for the next week I will be posting a newspaper article without any context behind it.

The point of this exercise is to create a short fiction story based on the headline of the article regardless of what content originally followed it.

Depending on how this exercise goes we will see if it is a temporary or permanent thing.

Every day during the next week I will upvote my favorite story at 100% which is currently about $1.00.

Together we can continue to make fiction a big part of Steemit.

Jim and his wife Barbara had expected this to be a normal Friday afternoon.

Fridays usually consisted of going to the nearby shopping mall and then stopping by Barbara's favorite restaurant for a slice of blueberry pie.

Jim had been a captain in the Air Force and had been gone for long stretches of time. It had been difficult for Barbara but she been used to it for most of their marriage.

The advent of the Rezors hadn't made things any easier.

The adorable couple could be seen holding hands and walking arm and arm like two lovebirds on any given day.

Most folks in the neighborhood envied a love like theirs and hoped that when they were older they would also get to share their twilight years with their longtime lover.

Jim and Barbara looked forward to a life of seclusion on their small plot of land.

Their dream was unfortunately cut short.

Friday night four charging stations connecting several pieces of the Aberdome to it's nuclear power supply were shorted out by an unknown Rezor.

Most of the electricity based Rezors were thought to have been eradicated in the Time of Robe. Most people alive today will tell you that wasn't an easy time to live through.

Now they tell us the same old lies. We, as citizens, are protected from electricity based attacks.

"The Shield is impenetrable" they say to ease our minds.

Who are they fooling? The blackened corpses of this lovely couple should only serve to show us that there is no escaping the wrath of the Rezors.

We should never have tried to control them. We should have just let them be.

The government can never leave well enough alone though.

Experiments. People wanting eternal life at any cost. ANY cost. Now what are we left with? A shield that will certainly completely fail in the very near future.

There's nowhere to hide. We were never protected. The sad truth is that we did this to ourselves.

As you can tell my story is not perfect. It probably took me about 20 minutes to write. 20 minutes or less is what I'm going for here but you can take all the time you want. It's a writing exercise so it doesn't have to be perfect. This is to improve our skills.
