Rapper YNW Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, is currently on trial for the alleged murder of two of his friends in October 2018. The prosecution claims that Demons, along with his accomplice Cortlen Henry, staged the murders to appear as a drive-by shooting. The trial resumed on Monday, July 10 (2023) in Broward County, Florida, with the prosecution requesting the judge to prevent the defense from using Melly’s history of marijuana use as part of their strategy. The defense argued that Melly’s cannabis consumption affected his memory and ability to recall certain events. However, the judge ruled in favor of the defense, allowing discussion of Melly’s past marijuana habits during the trial.
