Sun salutation! (Surya Namaskara)

The sun salutation is a dynamic process that introduce any kind of yoga discipline. It is composed of 12 or more position and it is a dance in motion that with the movement and the breathe helps the rhythmic and dynamic flow, passing from a position to the other.
The word "Surya" means SUN in the Sanskrit language. The word "Namaskara" is a sort of respectful greeting. This sequence rapresent the greeting of honor and reverence to the divine presence that is in each of us!
This process allows us to feel the breath as the source of our movement and the central point of our existence. This makes us more stable, strong and aware.

It is advised to practice the sun salutation in the morning because it awakens the body, stimulates the muscles, the brain, the endocrine glands and makes the thoughts clear in our mind. It is useful to apply it even before training as a form of warming for our body. In particoular this process prepare the vertebral column to the sport performance.
In the morning just 6 sun greetings to give to our body strenght and energy, or to lift our body if it is tired!

Each sun salutation starts with the "mountain position" (Samasthiti), asana that allows you to become aware of the whole body.
The feet are joined together and bets stuck to the ground. The ankles touch, the legs are strong but the knees are soft.
The pelvis is slightly pulled back, the abdomen is strong, the arms open. The heart is open and the arms follow the hips.
The eyes are closed because the inner gaze is turned to the point between the eyebrows where the sixth chakra (Anja) is located, the seat of intuition.
The hands join with the powerful gesture called "Mudra". They touch the sternum with their thumbs in prayer before the heart. The chin is pulled forward to free the neck!

After a few seconds the arms are raised and the torso is slightly bent backwards.
Then you exhale as you lean forward until you reach the dog's head down position (Adho Muha Svahasana).

The body is then inhaled and placed on the ground in the position of the eight supports (Ashtanga Namaskar).
Then inhaling, one goes to the position of the cobra (Bhujangasana).
Finally we return to the position of the dog upside down.

This has many benefits. It helps blood circulation, stress free, strengthens muscles and bones, speeds up the metabolism.
It is therefore a practice to start performing.
