Backbending

in yoga •  7 years ago

Backbending is hard work!!! It takes years to force ourselves to bend backwards when our bodies are so accustomed to slouching and sitting. Through my yoga practice I have learned the value of a backbend. It releases whatever emotions I'm feeling. It can leave me feeling joyful. I sometimes end up in tears. Nevertheless, I backbend every day. image

Great post, you know is not many people will be able to do that. Though I know that with constant practice, it is very possible. Weldon my friend for the tips.

It took me years to do that. My backbends didn't start like that... at all 😹... despite years of dance training

Okay, that i know that is not an easy one.

i need this

This is a great post! Back bends are critical considering the amount of sitting and slouching that takes place when sitting at work, driving etc.

Just to add a couple of other benefits (that @nzfxtrader outlined), it's believed that a good back bend (which improves posture) helps to increase lung function and the digestive systems health! Get on board with this, but make sure you start out easy.

Don't want to go snapping anything....

Keep up the great posts! Followed to see more of your fitness journey and learn other great tips I can pass on to clients :D

Wow thats some back bend. I can manage the wheel pose but thats something else :)

I would be in the ER if I tried this lol... I do meditate everyday though. Playing college football ruined my body.

This is kind of an extreme version. I would give yoga a try and see what it can do. Make sure you go to a beginner friendly class if you try it. Many people come to yoga for the exact reason you're describing.

Great, original post - I'm going to start bending and stretching more! thanks

Here are some of the major reasons to incorporate backbends into your practice.

  • Counteract rounded shoulders.
  • Increase mobility of spine.
  • Improves posture.
  • Boost your mood, relieve stress and wake you up.
  • Opens the heart and the mind.

I've been learning many years how to do that properly and I'm still unable to do it so yes, I agree, that's hard one.

Nice curve. I love back beds too. They feel so good.

Do you do dropbacks on your own? That's the one thing I can't seem get past in terms of fear.
