So I recently got this email from YouTube, and while it was expected, I was still pissed off.
Here it is in all its "glory":
Hi Bullish Money,
As you probably heard, we recently announced updates to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). We made these changes to address a spike in abuse on YouTube by bad actors like spammers, impersonators, and re-uploaders. Our goal is to ensure a healthy ecosystem where original creators can grow and thrive.
As of today, your channel, Bullish Money will no longer have access to monetization tools associated with YPP because it doesn’t meet the new threshold of 4,000 hours of watch time within the past 12 months and 1,000 subscribers. If you meet the new threshold at some point in the future, you'll be automatically re-evaluated for YPP. The reviews typically take 1-2 weeks.
We understand that you may have lots of questions right now, so we’ve put together some FAQs that can help.
Yeah, I have a few questions...
- If you're worried about spammers, impersonators, and re-uploaders, why not create algorithms to address those issues specifically?
- How can original creators grow and thrive when you are taking away the very incentive for them to grow and thrive?
- Why punish no-view, no-sub channels like mine when the real money is made from true con-artists, such as those marketing ponzi scheme BitConnect?
Folks, YouTube is dead to me. It's just a tool I'll use for marketing purposes, and nothing more.
It's all about DTube now baby!

YouTube also sucks because...
#1 Ads saturation
They are showing ads to people who search for ads to watch, like Super Bowl ads and movie trailers. Wanna watch an ad? Watch an ad first. Unreal. YouTube also totally screws advertisers with this too, as the advertisers WOULD be getting a free watch, but no, YouTube inserts it's foot in the door first, so many watchers just "x out". Seeking out an ad to watch is one thing, but having to watch ANOTHER ad to watch an ad is too much. YouTube must push growth bc otherwise Google would fall behind Facebook or god-forbid not grow, so they are saturating their network with ads any place they can insert them.
#2 Google Search is awful now.
Have you noticed how many ads are at the top of an average search result? We remember when there was 1 to 4 and they were obviously marked as ads (with a background color) and mostly they were off to the side of real search results. Now sometimes they put so many ads on the page you have to scroll halfway down to get to the actual pure search results. AND they are now trying to sneakily make the ads look like search results by continually camoflaging the ads with the search results. Know who DOESN'T do this? DuckDuckGo, which is where we're finding a lot of switchers lately, and DDG also doesn't rat out it's user's privacy to advertisers.
We switched to DDG in our iPhone browsers AND our desktop browsers.
#3 They've violated privacy repeatedly, and have harrassed old users to enter their personal info. This reached absurd levels when Facebook came around and forced everyone to use their real name, and has continued since.
Google IS evil, and they even got rid of their "do no evil" mantra. It shows.
Sure, we're still going to use YouTube for certain things, but we've been noticing we use it less and less, and really get excited when we find content that's no on Youtube.
As for search, Google search is dead to us. We made the switch to DDGo not bc Google was annoying, but bc the search was better. Google is playing games with personalization which can actually mess up the search results, and they are also politically altering search results.

YouTube is digging it's own grave as thousands of users are leaving every day, they have really screwed up this time. I think Google has other plans in the works...we will see. In the meantime, I am more than happy with Dtube!

It is the small players that have made Youtube what it is today. Now there are other options and many good content creators are moving to Dtube and Steemit.
In time, as these new platforms grow and develop Youtube will be left behind. It’s censorship and greed will eventually render it irrelevant.
