You Tube appears to be selectively censoring one type of video over another. Although the 2 examples given below are both essentially talking about the same thing one has been sandboxed and the other is freely available to watch, share and embed wherever one may choose.
Both of these videos are controversial. Each one states that their respective cultures are intellectually superior to others. Neither fall into the category of promoting hate speech, violence or inciting hatred against individuals or groups based on certain attributes. Nor do they intend to recruit for terrorist organizations, incite violence, celebrate terrorist attacks, or otherwise promote acts of terrorism. Both videos are wrong in my opinion but that doesn't mean to say that either of them should be censored. Especially one over the other. As Julian Assange put it earlier today both videos are "peddling their vulgar IQ supremacy auto-fellations."
Below are 2 videos from diametrically opposed academics talking about cultural differences in intellectual superiority. Both these videos have extreme views and have been given as examples of how You Tube have selectively censored one video over the other. The first example is the heavily censored, sandboxed video by Jared Taylor, a white nationalist and supremacist author, called 'Race Differences in Intelligence' and the other which hasn't been censored is from Steven Pinker, a self proclaimed cultural jew, called 'Jews, Genes and Intelligence'.
Video 1
The first thing you'll notice when clicking play on this video is you get a message saying you can watch this video here.
When you do click through to watch the video on You Tube you get a further message warning you that the content is inappropriate or offensive.
Finally when you get to the video you'll notice that all the normal functions you are familiar with on You Tube videos have been disabled.
Video 2
Here is the video by Steven Pinker talking about the same subject but from a different view point. You'll notice that you're able to watch it embedded into this post without the need to click through any warnings to watch it on You Tube. If you do click through to You Tube you'll also notice none of the video features are disabled.
Here is a paragraph from a Wikipeadia page giving you a bit of background on You Tubes recent clamp down on non-adverting friendly content.
Censorship of YouTube - Wikipedia
In March 2017, a number of major advertisers and prominent companies began to pull their advertising campaigns from YouTube, over concerns that their ads were appearing on objectionable and/or extremist content, in what the YouTube community began referring to as a 'boycott'.[9][10] YouTube personality PewDiePie described these boycotts as an "adpocalypse", noting that his video revenue had fallen to the point that he was generating more revenue from YouTube Red subscription profit sharing (which is divided based on views by subscribers) than advertising.[11] On April 6, 2017, YouTube announced planned changes to its Partner Program, restricting new membership to vetted channels with a total of at least 10,000 video views. YouTube stated that the changes were made in order to "ensure revenue only flows to creators who are playing by the rules"
In their community guidelines they say they have review teams that determine if a video is borderline under their policies or not. I'm sure we would like to know who are these review teams, and why are they making decisions for us on what we can and cannot watch.
I personally don't agree with either of the videos and whether you agree with them or not is not the issue. The reason for this post is merely to point out the blatant one sided censorship going on at You Tube. I know these videos have pretty extreme views and some of you may think censorship of this nature is warranted, but this kind of censorship is how ultimate control of the masses starts. Before you know it the only thing left on You Tube will be fluffy cat videos and cooking tutorials.
"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"
So what are the alternatives?
Over the last few years there have been various alternatives to You Tube. Below I shall give you a brief description of each platform.
Vimeo is a video-sharing website in which users can upload, share and view videos. It was the first video sharing site to support high-definition video (started in October 2007). Vimeo was founded in November 2004 by Jake Lodwick and Zach Klein.
https://vimeo.com/
BitChute is powered by WebTorrent. WebTorrent is an independent project started by Feross Aboukhadijeh in October 2013 and is the first torrent client that works in the browser. YEP, THAT'S RIGHT. THE BROWSER. I cannot overstate the importance of WebTorrent. The Internet is full of centralized monsters and WebTorrent is the magical sword we will use to slay them.
https://www.bitchute.com/
Vidme is a video hosting service that was launched to the public in 2014. It has been self-described as a hybrid between video hosting website YouTube and social network Reddit.
https://vid.me/
DTube is an application fully written in javascript, that runs in the browser, that allows you to upload and watch videos on top of the IPFS Network. Moreover, it uses STEEM as a database and enables earning rewards from your uploads.

So there we have it some You Tube alternatives that will hopefully allow you to bypass some of their ever encroaching Orwellian censorship. I can't imaging You Tube are going to back track on any of their censorship decisions and in fact they'll only probably get even worse so if we want to live in a freer society then we should all start to think about moving to other platforms.
Why did you not mention Dailymotion as an alternative? It shares its advertisement revenue with its uploaders too.

Its great to see that now we have the tools to share ideas which may not be popular without them being shutdown. No corporation should have the power to control what people think through censorship of ideas.

Yes there should be a place for every idea. Even if its not an idea you support.

I appreciate you bringing this to light, i was absolutely dumbfounded to see this kind of one sided censorship happening, yet confused as to why i didn't see it coming haha. Thanks for the alternative choices, i hope the road of censorship isn't the eventual consequence of video sites getting too big.

You make a very good point. Maybe they hit a threshold where they get too big and end up bowing to pressure from corporations instead of being for the user.

I had great hopes for Dtube but today the developer talked about introducing censorship :
" if videos get downvoted to 0$ THEY WON'T BE STORED".

a follow up: on Dtube downvoting to 0 will delist the video but by paying the node directly the video will get relisted (unless illegal material) and there will be several nodes in the future. so even if a video gets downvoted to 0 there'll be ways to keep it listed by paying a small fee.

As a youtube content creator myselft, this a real shame!! I have been creating youtube videos since 2007 and have recieved my first ever unjustified copyright restriction (which I have appealed) hopefully things will change, but for the mean time Im sure consumers will use different sources for videos. Especially if we are judging by the steemit community, which is very strong as I have just learnt. Nice post eitherway man! Keep on steem'n.

My channel on Youtube was locked last week. All of my appears and emails have been ignored. They had been messing with my channel for 6 months, unsubbing subscribers, demonitizing and restricting videos. It sucked. 50,000 subscribers GONE! They haven't pulled it down yet but I'm locked out. https://www.youtube.com/user/AnAmericanHomestead
I'm currently uploading to Vimeo and Dtube and posting them here.

Sure have to reform election... First let the place to honest people, who may have interesting idea to really help and serv the people. Or making that is people taken by hazard to execute what all people want (as having is wordl to say on every decision and law) but for that we need to come back to local powers, then coordinate at state and higher state by personn active for the global good..

Great post Fortified. Google is like the Borg on Star Trek and should be avoided at all costs. The censorship agenda is getting worse and worse. Some will argue that Google is not the government, however, there is plenty of evidence supporting the fact that they are operating hand in hand with the government and Eric Schmidt has even used Alphabet to conduct propaganda related to Syria on behalf of the US government which is supporting terrorists there.
More info here on the censorship agenda being carried out by social media giants in collaboration with identified and unidentified government affiliated organizations.

There's no money in freedom for big corporations..So they are going to control the content to what they see fit even its to censor it. These platforms are becoming like our news channels nothing but fake news, they are only going to show filtered content to keep the sheep asleep and making them money..

This is a great example of capitalism at work! If YouTube keeps demonitizing and alienating their own users, there is plenty of competition to their place as the top video-sharing site.

All platforms censor their users. Some more than others. I've censored people on steemit by flagging spam in the comments during a contest I hosted that asked for users to comment. I've been censored by the PAL network while not breaking any specifically stated rule, but because someone didn't like what I was saying.
Of course YouTube censors people. If you're promoting alternative platforms to YouTube then why not tell us why they won't end up doing the same thing?
Freedom of speech and expression means being allowed to say things people won't like. People with more power than you will do what they can to censor you whether or not you make sense. It'll always be like that unless you do away with freedom of speech.

Very interesting piece, personally i can very uncomfortable with any form of censorship but I can see that it is necessary in rare cases (paedophilia etc) and I agree with the use of some age restrictions with graphic content etc.
I believe in the right to freedom of speech and I think the internet should be a place where this is allowed. Increasingly, governments and large corporations are attempting to take control of the internet which is very worrying.
