The Enemy of My Enemy

In the 4th Century BC, a Sanskrit text introduced the notion that "The enemy of my enemy is my friend", according to Wikipedia. During World War II, this was a rationale behind the Allies working with Russia against the Nazis. In the Cold War era, it may have been the justification behind supporting the Mujaheddin in Afghanistan, the Contras in Nicaragua, and many of the regimes in Central America and elsewhere.

Events like 9-11 and perhaps some of the issues at America's Southern Border may be blowback from past policies. "The enemy, of my enemy, is not always my enemy" may be a more nuanced approach; except in a case where the enemy, of an enemy, is an enemy.

This is the situation I seem to face. I would like to do a series of YouTube videos showing the "best and brightest" of the people who comment on the forums for Harrisburg. Pennsylvania's, paper of record. Many of them seem to be examples of the people that Trump and the Republican Party rely on for support; rural, less-educated, lower-middle to lower-class, White and male. As I think more and more about the audience for the videos, I see they may be gentrifiers. My idea was to have the viewers be from urban communities of color and people who would be allies of the "black bloc".

I may be creating a catastrophe where there isn't one; I may be able to reach my desired target audience, or I may have to do two programs, kind of a "Solomon's Compromise".

The worst-case situation is I lose more people I see as allies over an idea that makes sense to me!
