How to Move from Youtube to Anywhere elsesteemCreated with Sketch.

You've got 100's of videos on Youtube and you want to vacate that platform for one that doesn't come up with a myriad of way to stifle your hard work no matter how paltry the returns.

But sadly when you search for mass youtube downloaders you end up with a Digital Wave product each and every time, whether it be DVDVideoSoft aka FreeStudio or FreeMake that in turn want you to pay premium subscription prices to get the job done.

Don't allow them to profit from your ignorance, yes, it's good suite, but you don't need to pay for something you can do yourself in Linux. And don't let that shock you either, you can now get a Full Linux shell inside of Windows!!! Look in the Windows Store for Ubuntu for Windows and follow the instructions.

All you need are:

  1. youtube-dl: on debian systems you can use sudo apt-get install youtube-dl --fix-missing
  2. and the link from the "play-all" option for the "uploads" section of your channel. Hint: right click "play all" and choose "copy url"

In your Linux:

  1. create and enter a directory to store your videos
  2. then use the command youtube-dl -i -o "%(title)s.%(ext)s" "put url here including the quotes"
  3. then wait for a very long time as it downloads video and audio, stitches them back together with ffmpeg and more.

There is a --get-description option but I don't know how to use it to make a separate file for the description, meaning that you'll have to create new entries for all of your videos and go back to where they were to copy the old descriptions if you don't want to change the wording much. I am sure someone enterprising mind can figure out how to pull the list, extract the individual urls, then get each file, title and description one by one and save them each to their own folder, or even upload them into another platform like dtube and auto fill the titles and descriptions.
