The period of relocation is inevitably also that of the proliferation of bed bugs and a specialist in pest management believes that the City of Montreal must do more to counter the epidemic.
According to Harold Leavey, the City should first hire more inspectors and apply the regulations more strictly.
The specialist has also been campaigning for many years for a real information campaign to be set up in Montreal to establish everyone's responsibilities in the fight against bed bugs.
"If this public information campaign was going well, I'm sure it would make a difference," he said in an interview on LCN Sunday morning.
It's a real public health issue, according to Harold Leavey, who says infestations are becoming more important.
"There are more and more people who have a lot, a lot of bedbugs and when they come out of their homes to go anywhere else, they bring bedbugs and that's how it looks more like a disease [ contagious], "compared Mr. Leavey.
Advice
Harold Leavey has some tips to avoid bringing bedbugs home and countering their spread.
In particular, he suggests taking advantage of the heat to put clothes and other potentially contaminated sheets in a car in the sun.
"Today, it will go up to 100 degrees Celsius in cars. Bedbugs will all die [...] because a stink bug dies at 43 degrees, "said Leavey.
The specialist also urges people infested with bed bugs not to wait too long before calling in an exterminator.
"A bedbug problem that starts is easy to deal with [...], but the big problem is that people wait so long," said Leavey.
