Ottawa to Announce Over $ 1 Billion for Blue Line

The federal government will contribute more than $ 1 billion to the project to extend the blue line of the Montreal metro to Anjou, TVA Nouvelles said.

The announcement will be made Thursday in Montreal by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau with the Quebec Minister Delegate for Transport and responsible for the Montreal area, Chantal Rouleau.

The Quebec government will fund a larger part of the project, but the exact amount of its contribution will not be announced Thursday, according to our information.

The total cost of the project is estimated at 4½ billion. It plans to add five new stations over 5.8 kilometers to extend the blue line to the district of Anjou from Saint-Michel station.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2021 and be completed in 2026, according to the schedule announced last year.

In April 2018, Prime Minister Trudeau announced that Ottawa would fund part of the project, but the amount of the federal contribution was still to be negotiated.

Initially valued at $ 3.9 billion, the project's bill was revised upwards by $ 600 million in the spring. The cost of the expropriations had been undervalued and the payment of taxes had not been calculated.
