Ann dressed up for the occasion. Many household tasks had to be done before she could go, and she hurried through them.
She had greeted many important people at the event before looking down to find she was still wearing a soiled apron.
This is my entry for @felt.buzz's zapfic challenge. The prompt was "sit". It's a somewhat true story, the name has been changed to squeeze the story into 240 characters, and I was sitting on a bar stool when I noticed the apron. One person later told me she'd thought it was a fashion statement.

At least she's smart enough to wear an apron. It took me 55+ years to break down and wear one, having ruined sooooo many shirts and always the best ones, because that final step with the splatter of hot olive oil ALWAYS ends up on me. Stains! Stains! Better to let the apron take it on, and cast it into the laundry.

Yes, and I'd walked down Main Street Nyack with it on before I settled myself on a bar stool at Maureen's Jazz Cellar, at which point I noticed my red and white striped apron.
